Anti-Aging Skin Care – How Topical Treatment Programs Support Anti-Aging

The longer you wait to develop a skin care program the more difficult it will be to combat the aging process. Many researchers suggest starting a anti-aging skin care treatment in your as early in life and possible. These early anti-aging treatments are more topical in nature and less invasive then surgical cosmetic procedures. They are more geared toward prevention of skin damage and can save you money on more evasive cosmetic treatment costs later in life.

Topically applied anti-aging skin rejuvenation treatments are effective when flaws in the skins complexion are light to moderate. Substances found in the vitamin A family, along with alpha-hydroxy acids and topical antioxidants like vitamins C and E are examples of what to look for in products applied topically. First, is to determine what area of the body you are going to treat and then purchase over-the-counter products recommended for that specific area. Together all these ingredients make an excellent skin care program that will decrease the effects of aging on your skin. . Starting your anti-aging skin care program today can greatly help you put off the effects of aging later in life.

The Complete Guide To Recreational Boats

The Complete Guide To Recreational Boats

With the large variety of boats available you have many options just as you would with buying a car. You need to think about what you will be using the boat for, do you have room for storage, and if not how much can you pay on a regular basis for such storage? Not to mention a way of transporting to and from such storage. Maintenance and insurance also needs to be considered as part of the expenditure.

What is your primary function of the boat going to be? Is it going to be a fishing boat, a sport boat, skiing, sailing, or even a pontoon boat? What are you going to be using it for? Are you primarily going to be fishing or is it for visiting while enjoying the great outdoors? As a buyer you need to decide which you are going to be doing and plan accordingly from there.

A fishing boat comes in many sizes and types. From a cheap aluminum model for 2 people to a more expensive boat that holds more and might be able to be used for other things. Are you going to be fishing a lot, will you be taking it out during possible rough weather? Cheaper fishing boats will not handle rough weather very well.

A sport or ski boat is probably the most popular. Not just because they can be used for a variety of a lot of tasks. However, because they are relativity inexpensive for the amount of tasks you can accomplish with them. These combo boats can accommodate a medium size group without a lot of difficulty. Offering the capability to pull a skier for the water fun or maybe a live well to store those fish you caught.

Sailboats are another option. They are a wide range of sizes to please any user. From a small boat to a yacht, there is a choice for any desire. Most of these have an onboard motor along with the free power of the wind to move them. So no fears about getting stuck somewhere. These not only provide the user with good exercise they also provide them a good sense of being one with nature.

The last type of boat in consideration is the pontoon boat. I have always considered these the party boats. However, they are for a larger amount of people allowing everybody to enjoy the boat at the same time, supporting between a total 10 to 20 people with ease. With the advances in motors and materials these boats are no longer necessarily slow and cumbersome. You can get them with upper decks and a surprising amount of comfort. You can even get some with a slide into the water, making it even more convenient for the guests to get in and out of the water easily. Not to mention no longer extremely heavy despite their size, so easier to move around. Making it easier to haul and put in and out of the water.

Career Book Review – 101 Secrets To Career Success by Rashika Fernando – A Holistic Employment Model

Career Book Review – 101 Secrets To Career Success by Rashika Fernando – A Holistic Employment Model

Current U.S. unemployment reigns at roughly 9.5 percent, with at least 14 million jobless Americans. Statistics show approximately 5 applicants for every one available job. Economists predict a multi-year experience of higher than usual U.S. unemployment. Today’s global marketplace is restructuring employment opportunities. It’s challenging. Now, having the perfect resume and knowing the answers to “tough” interview questions no longer guarantees a job. Many who are working feel unfulfilled, desiring to change careers; yet hesitate for a variety of reasons.?

Following is the first of three articles summarizing “101″ career books published by Course Technology. A different author highlights what it takes to achieve career success in the 21st century for each book.?Here, it’s businessman Rashika Fernando. His new book is entitled 101 Secrets To Career Success.

Fernando sports an impressive corporate career, working primarily in Global Finance. His message transcends the corporate world, addressing careers in general, whether you’re employed or unemployed. “101 Secrets” offers a holistic approach to employment, integrating both your personal and professional presence. In today’s marketplace, the more these two worlds converge, the happier you’ll be. Fernando’s 101 career secrets are dispersed among 17 succinctly written chapters, providing an expedient, enlightening read. Following are highlights from four chapters.

Purpose/Meaning. Fernando asks, “Why do you live and go to work?” Each one of us has a purpose in life, waiting to be discovered, he writes. Once we know our purpose in life, everything else falls into place. He believes our overall happiness includes these elements: 1. Be happy with the life that we have. 2. Ensure the continuation of life. This would include procreating, or aiding future generations by volunteering, adopting/sponsoring orphaned children, etc. 3. Enhance life by donating to causes, offering comforting words to someone facing a difficult challenge, etc.

Finding our purpose can be a long journey, unique to our being. Ultimately our career choices should make us happy while getting paid to do it. Combine a mission with your purpose; believe in it and execute it. To act on your purpose, you need a strategy. It allows you to connect high-level dreams into actionable plans. Career Success Secret: “Wanting to understand your life’s purpose is the biggest step forward you can take towards success.”

Career/Life Strategy. Arguably the best chapter in the book, Strategizing Your Career and Life” emphasizes the importance of planning. Strategy is the approach you take to close the gap between where you are and where you want to be. It brings choices into action. There’s no formula for strategy, as each of your goals is unique. We strategize every day on a simpler level (mapping out a travel route, daily To-Do lists, etc.) Achieving big dreams is difficult and complex. Strategy brings our dreams to the level of other day-to-day realities. While there’s no strategy formula, there is a Strategic Planning Framework: Definition-write down the problem to solve and the goal, which serves as a reference point for planning. Data/Analysis-record what you already know about the problem or goal, analysis you’ve done, or any assumptions. Strategy-devise your approach to obtain the goal. Tactics/Resources- identifies the smallest details of your plan, Monitoring- review progress in your plan. Career Success Secret: “It is very important that you make a choice rather than hiding behind analysis.”

Being Proactive. Proactive people actively participate and anticipate various diversions in their plans, influencing the change towards their goals. Being proactive creates better quality of results and better quality of life. Any quest for success will include competition. Anticipate and plan for inevitable competitive situations. On your journey towards success develop the ability to see what will happen in the next several years. “You can always see the signs of tomorrow today,” says Fernando. Regarding the workforce, anticipate continual technological advancements. “Give up what you already know, to learn what you don’t know.” Career Success Secret: “Being proactive builds your confidence.”

Networking. Our success depends on our relationships. To be successful, we need to learn the art of networking and feel comfortable doing it. Networking is essentially being a good friend to others. Our existing contacts and friends are our most powerful network we have. Networking provides friendship, emotional support and encouragement. Connecting with other people helps you realize your own accomplishments and the value that you add. The best reason to network is the wealth of opportunities it provides you. Career Success Secret: “Networking is a matching process whereby your strengths are matched with new opportunities, increasing your chances for success.”

Amidst anemic job markets and media stories featuring the distress, we can only direct our own lives. If you’re dissatisfied with your career or frustratingly unemployed, read “101 Secret’s” Chapter 4: “Controlling Your Destiny.” The global marketplace presents an evolving employment landscape. Old industries fade to reveal new career opportunities. Experiencing career success in today’s marketplace requires a paradoxical selfishness. Only by engaging in relentless introspection (regardless of age), with a goal to integrate both your personal and professional being, can you best contribute to society. Fernando’s holistic approach to career and life offers steadfast advice in today’s tumultuous world.

Complement Fernando’s message with Jay Miletsky’s “101 Ways To Successfully Market Yourself,” and Carol A. Silvis’s “101 Ways To Make Yourself Indispensable at Work,” to jump-start your career, whether employed, unemployed, seasoned or novice.

Curious Facts About Memoirs

Curious Facts About Memoirs

Technically, from a literature stand point, a memoir is an autobiography but it is not always written by the person that is the subject so it is usually filed in the biography section in the book store and the library.

Some people choose to write about their early lives and to reveal long held secrets that will titillate and scandalize the readers to sell more books. Others choose to write simple facts and tell stories about their climb to the top of the company ladder. By reading a memoir or a biography the reader learns about human nature. Some writers use their personal stories to inspire others in their race or sex to greater heights. Some writers use these stories to expose child abuse or elder abuse or family secrets.

There are some memoirs and biographies that are written to tear the reader apart; to jolt him or her into action. These stories often involve abuse that is so great that it is past imagination and yet the writer manages to portray all of the pain and horror that happened in a way that conveys to the reader the full extent.

It is said that if we ignore or forget history then we are doomed to repeat it. Because of this, biographies and memoirs often involve things like Nazi internment during the Second World War. Its horrors cannot be allowed to fade from memory and every person that was a “guest” at the hands of the Nazi party will do everything in his or her power to make certain that it isn’t.

Sometimes biographies are not of people but of certain times in our lives. There are biographies written of great musicians and their rise to the top. There are biographies written of each different style of art and the artists who made the style famous. There are biographies of professions and professionals, presidents and president’s wives, soldiers, draft dodgers, teachers, professors, physicians, Indians, Egyptians and just about any other subject that can be researched.

Biographies and memoirs that are written to be a sort of self-help book for the reader is, in reality, a catharsis of the writer. Some people have written biographies and memoirs to tell the world about what they didn’t do rather than what they accomplished. These are memoirs of hopes and aspirations that have been dashed and often are written to help those who read it do better along the way.

All in all, though, they are real life stories; not fiction from a creative mind. These are the stories of people’s lives and the choices they made and why they made the ones they did. Sometimes other people are involved in a way that lets the reader know that the choices were made for the writer and then the reader has to wonder “what if”. These are stories of lives won and lost and lives that people never even got to live. Hopefully they will resonate with the reader and make an impression that is deep enough that a lesson is learned in the experience.

Dating Professionals – Here is a Way to Avoid the Dating Rollercoaster

Dating professionals have a lot of weight on their shoulders. The commitment and dedication that you have to put into your career can be very time consuming and strenuous. Meeting deadlines, meeting your companies expectations of you, continuing your education so that you can obtain a better position all of this can be enough to fill your plate of life leaving no room for anything else. Not only do you have to remain focused on your career and job responsibilities there may also be your life outside of work that needs to be catered to; paying bills on time, car maintenance, home repairs, gardening and whatever else seems to creep up on you at the last minute.

These responsibilities alone can drive dating professionals completely insane. Then there’s dating. As much as dating professionals would like to date they just can’t seem to find the time to fit it in. What Is Article Marketing – A Quick and Easy Explanation

What Is Article Marketing – A Quick and Easy Explanation

Just what is article marketing? Most people just have some vague understanding about this “free” online marketing method. What is article marketing? Read this article to get a straight forward explanation of the subject from someone who practices it every day.

What is Article Marketing?

It’s a “free” online marketing strategy that offers online marketers an opportunity drive traffic to their sites via links attached to articles they themselves have written and submitted to article directory sites just like this one. I say article marketing is “free” because although this online marketing strategy costs no money to implement, there is a cost associated with it and that cost is the time it takes to write and submit the article itself.

So, if you normally get payed a certain amount of money per hour at your day job, every hour you spend practicing marketing with articles, in effect, costs you that much money.

What is Article Marketing and What Skills Must One Have To Do It Successfully?

This online marketing strategy revolves around keyword research. Keyword research is a process understood only by a select few. It is beyond the scope of this article, but in short, it involves finding words that people type into search engines that have very low competition. The result of this keyword research is the starting point for writing an article. The writer uses this low competition keyword in the article’s title and text, which in turn attracts the attention of search engines and that, coupled with posting the article on a site with a very high page rank, causes the article to be very visible and highly relevant to a small, but highly targeted, niche demographic.

So, for example, if an person performed keyword research to write articles related to say article marketing, and he found the keyword what is article marketing, he or she would then write an article based on that keyword. He or she would place that keyword in the title of the article and throughout the body of the document itself, and provided the keyword what is article marketing had not already been used by another person to get listed on the first page of search engine results, what is article marketing would give that person first page search results for the keyword what is article marketing and attract the attention of a healthy share of the total amount of people searching for that term.

That being said, this online marketing method represents the very best option for product or service promotion for upstart online marketers, in my opinion. The reasons for this are as follows:

Most upstarts do not have money to invest in payed advertising, so the cost of time is considered an acceptable exchange

It generates highly targeted traffic

Once you write and submit and article, it is “forever.” It will continue to attract people who are interested in your subject matter as long as the subject remains in demand. And,

Through effective keyword research, it is easy to get your article listed on the front page of search engine results

These benefits are huge, especially for aspiring online marketers who have ample drive but limited capital to invest in their business. So, again, what is article marketing? It’s a great equalizer in the realm of online marketing. Through the proper implementation of the marketing method, the little people can get seen just as easily as the big dogs.

Achieving Your Dreams

Achieving Your Dreams

I would like you to take a moment – take a step back and

reflect on your life.

Where exactly are you?

Have you achieved your dreams?

Do you know exactly what your dreams are?

Are you any closer to achieving your dreams now, than when you

first began to desire them?

What’s the real secret?

You MUST invest in yourself.

Switch off the world around you for a moment, take a step

back and absorb everything you are about to read.

Start your journey of success and achievement NOW.

Forget everything which you believe is limiting you,

when you learn these simple methods you

simply cannot fail – it is your right to be successful.

To begin with, you must discover and determine what success

means to you.

I am about to show you how to begin your journey by making it

personal and helping you find a deep desire to succeed. Having

a dream is fundamental to success, it is what will drive you

and keep you focused when you are confronted with obstacles.

Very often, when we are not committed to something, it tends to

get pushed to the back of our minds – things will find a way of

making you stray from your goals and aspirations. Why? Because

we are only human and life is unpredictable.

Committing to a goal and seeing it through, not only brings

success but also a feeling of wellbeing and great achievement.

Doing so even when it seems that the world is conspiring

against you is what makes you great.

If you read biographies of the people you admire,

you will notice a pattern emerging, successful people do not

leave anything to fate, they make a decision to achieve

something then they follow their dreams letting go of or

rolling over

everything that prevents them from doing so.

Set out with a goal and then they DO it without question

and with the mindset that failure is not an option.

One thing you need to bear in mind is that success is not

measured

in money, it is measured in achievement. When you set out to

do something and then do it, that is success.

This is the first and last thing which you need to consider when

undertaking any task. Success feels good.

What is even better is that it doesn’t need to be a huge

achievement.

You can start small and allow your successes to

accumulate one by one until your goals and dreams are realized.

It is my personal belief that almost everyone has the

potential to

succeed and that in all but the rarest cases, failing is a

personal choice.

As far as ultimate failure is concerened, it is only possible to

fail if you have stopped trying.

Unless you have given up, you are still doing what you

have set out to achieve, and therefore still on the journey to

success. In effect, you only ultimately fail if you give up,

and this is

the choice we make. This is also true for those who don’t begin

in the first place, falling at the first hurdle and not taking

any action at all, this is failure because you have decided you

want to do something and not even begun.

Obstacles will appear on your path.

It’s how you deal with these obstacles that determines

whether you succeed

or fail, whether you are a successful person or an unsuccessful

person.

It is this single lesson which will determine the rest of your

life, career and

any other pursuit you undertake. So many people have overcome

difficult obstacles, why not adopt this attitude;

“who am I to give up when people in far more difficult

circumstances strive onward.”

Success starts with a decision, “I am going to…” and then

continues with action.

Apparently, you have already made a decision that you want to

learn how to

succeed.

BEWARE!

Success is addictive!

Once you have had your taste of it you want more.

By taking action and striving to achieve something

you will find that opportunities come your way and obstacles of

any size can be overcome if you just keep MOVING.

One of the main reasons that they give

up and ultimately fail is that they do not have a definite

purpose, the goal has no context.

Many people pick a goal and

blindly aim for it?

It’s ridiculous. One of the bizarre teaching in NLP is that

“why” doesn’t matter.

Oh yes, it does.

If you think “why” doesn’t matter, I assure you, that you will

ultimately fail.

Period.

You do need to decide WHY you want to

pursue that goal.

This is what will motivate and keep you

focused.

Two examples.

John said “I am going to earn a million dollars this year.”

Sarah said “I am going to earn a million dollars this year

because I want to use some of that money for my children, help

out my family, free up my time and take off the pressures of

everyday life so that I can spend more time doing the things

that I want to do.”

Is it obvious which is more powerful?

Is it obvious which is more likely to succeed?

Which one do you think is going to be more

motivated to overcome the obstacles put in their way because

they have a clear and definite purpose?

If we assume they both came up against the same obstacles, what

would differentiate John and Sarah? Sarah could ask herself,

“Am I going to let this obstacle get in the way of my dream? Is

this obstacle going to rob me of my freedom and rob my children

of their security?”

A clear and definite purpose for achieving

your goal is essential to your success.

If you set a goal, decide on the purpose. Choose something

that is important to you. That “higher calling” needs to be the

most important thing in the world to ensure your success. Pick

something that is really important to you, make success your

ONLY option.

Take some time to write down some things about your desires.

Life has a habit of making them seem less important,

eventually we get into the habit of submitting to life’s

every whim and existing instead of living.

By allowing life to control us, we lose control. By

taking this step back to take stock of our goals we can regain

that control and focus on what is really important to us.

What is your dream(s)?

I want you to write down as many things as you can, they can be

as big or as small as you like.

Financial freedom, skiing on the slopes of an exclusive resort,

sailing your own yacht in the Caribbean, spending more time

with the

people who are important to you. Don’t discriminate between the

ideas yet, just write down anything you’ve ever wanted to do.

Now, which of these really burns into your heart?

Which single one of these is going to make you feel best?

Feel really good about yourself?

Which will bring you the most happiness?

Spend some time imagining doing each of them and let your

feelings

guide you on this.

How much will it cost to fulfill your dream?

This is an important piece of research you will have to do,

find out EXACTLY how much it will cost because this will form

part of your plans, you will need to earn your dream. By

knowing exactly how much it will cost to fulfill your dream, you

can easily check your progress and how far you have left to go.

What would you do to get there?

Next up: Write down the things you would do to

achieve this dream. Don’t just write ANYTHING IT TAKES, this is

unspecific and will not call you into action.

For example; are you prepared to work extra overtime,

sacrifice a few of the treats you pay extra for, are

you prepared to start a small or part time business, are

you prepared to spend some of your time

working towards it, are you prepared to sell some of your knick-

knacks and possessions to help fund the venture?

These are suggestions that can be used on your list.

If you can’t populate your list with at least

5-10 things which you WOULD do to achieve your dream, I suggest

you pick another one because that dream isn’t the one you

ultimately see yourself doing.

When you have a burning desire to fulfil our dreams you will

do anything it takes.

So again, write down all the things you could or would possibly

do to put you in the

position you desire.

Why do you want it?

Think of the emotions it brings with it. Imagine yourself

sometime in the future.

You’ve achieved your dream and you’re there, experiencing it

right now.

What does it look like, what does it sound like?

What does it smell like, what does it taste like?

What does it feel like?

When I think about my number one dream I get

shivers, huge surges of energy.

What does your dream mean to you?

Write down all the feelings that come with the dream.

When do you want it?

I suppose you’d really want that dream to be your present life

experience

yes?

OK. The next thing I want you to do is to write down the

following statement in a

way that is specific to your own dreams.

I am going to (earn the necessary money) and do (the necessary

things) because I am going to (achieve my dream), I am going to

achieve this dream because it is the most important thing to me

for the following reasons, (write your reasons here). I want it

NOW, every day I am not on the path to achieving my dreams is

another day I am postponing it so I am going to take action NOW.

If it seems impossible to achieve, you need to consider the

following statement.

When someone says, “it can’t be done”, someone else is out

there proving them wrong.

It takes effort to achieve your dreams, but when you’re there

would you look back and regret what you did to make it happen?

Or would you enjoy what you’ve got, thankful for your

determination.

Take 5 minutes out of each day to visualize and totally immerse

yourself in your ideal situation, experience that dream as if it

were real.

Now, imagine yourself driving down the road towards your

destination, your destination is your dream, you’re half way

there when your car breaks down… do you walk towards your dream

or back home?

What does it take to be a successful person?

They have a dream.

You must have a dream, a definite purpose.

We have already determined that a dream is the

fundamental factor of success.

It is what drives you when you are faced with obstacles. It’s

what tells you that you can make it, when others say you can’t.

They have a plan:

A plan is your road map to success. It takes you from where

you are now, to where you want to be.

I Hate cliches, but this one is true:

When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

If the dream is the foundation,

then the plan is the architect’s drawing. The “how-to,” step-by-

step instructions as to how you will achieve your dream.

They are willing to work hard:

Successful people don’t always need to work hard, but the key

word is “willing.”

They do what it takes to make their

dreams come true, as opposed to those who will simply give up

when it is too much effort. When you work hard at doing

something the end result is always that much more enjoyable.

They don’t take no for an answer:

Nobody has any right to stop you from achieving your dreams.

Successful achievers are focused:

By concentrating on the goals and objectives, you will find

that you achieve more. You won’t get sidetracked and you won’t

procrastinate. By focusing, you will be able to do things

effectively and be highly productive.

Achievers get things done:

To succeed takes action and you need to do what it takes. When

you don’t know how to do what it takes you must learn how to do

it.

Expanding your knowledge base is essential in achievement.

When you do know how to do something, you do it and then move

onto

the next thing. Never waste time, you are only delaying your

enjoyment of your own dream.

Achievers don’t make excuses:

Successful people make decisions:

When you make a decision, follow it. If it doesn’t work out,

learn from it.

Don’t put off making decisions for fear of making a wrong one.

Achievers learn from their mistakes:

Mistakes are something to learn from. If you make a mistake,

correct it, then move on.

Better Baseball Hitting

Better Baseball Hitting

Many people seem to believe that baseball hitting at a high performance level is just some natural athletic ability that some people have while most people don’t. But excellent baseball hitting requires excellent baseball training in the science and art of batting.

It’s true that some natural abilities are needed in order for one to have the potential to become an excellent hitter in baseball. For instance, a .400 hitter will never be unless he’s got superior eyesight, so that he’s able to pick up the ball from the earliest point in the pitcher’s delivery and then read the spinning of the seams in great detail. And, yes, there does need to be a natural gift for basic hand-eye coordination.

But hitting a baseball well is widely regarded as the single most difficult feat in all of professional sports, all things considered. The baseball hitter has to use a round stick to hit a round ball, and that ball is moving rapidly (sometimes VERY rapidly) over a short distance and has been thrown by someone who is intending to make that ball miss the bat. And that’s all just about making CONTACT with the ball. Then there’s the part where the contact is supposed to be good enough that it gives the batter’s team some offense!

So, truly, there’s more to batting than meets the eye when it comes to baseball hitting. Mind and body have to work in unison to achieve effective hitting results. And that’s just not going to happen unless there is some excellent baseball training in hitting.

Think about it. With only rare exceptions, major league baseball pitchers, some of the greatest athletes in the world, are utterly terrible at batting. You would think that they would be some of the very best hitters because they supposedly can anticipate the pitcher better than most other players. And those of us who played little league baseball surely remember those guys who were great pitchers as well as great hitters–in fact, that seemed to go hand in hand a great deal of the time. But clearly, that’s not the case in the major leagues. You see, major league pitching itself is such a demanding art that pitchers have to spend most of their practice time pitching–not taking batting practice. So, even though they may have a lot of natural talent, very few of them can be even competent big-leagues baseball hitters. Their baseball training just doesn’t fall into that category.

If you notice, you’ll see that most catchers aren’t anything better than mediocre hitters, either, although they certainly are better than pitchers and there are some of them who are real batting champions. The baseball training of catchers, too, is more highly specialized to focus on the extremely difficult to master set of skills needed for catching.

So, excellent baseball hitting is so difficult that some of the best athletes aren’t very good at it–simply because they don’t get enough of the specialized baseball training that makes good hitters. Another thing to think about is that really good baseball hitting is so difficult to master that we give Most Valuable Player awards to hitters who get put out 650, 675, 700 times out of every 1,000 at bats! And if a guy makes an out even more than 700 times for every 1,000 attempts, but he can hit that ball a country mile 35 or 40 or 50 times when he DOES make contact, we may give him an MVP trophy, too!

So, what this all means for you is that there are certain baseball training techniques that are designed to make “merely” talented baseball hitters into good, or great, baseball hitters.

Baseball hitting training is designed to: improve hip and thoracic spine mobility; increase the ability to store and release bodily kinetic energy, especially by increasing the tensile power of the hips; and improve the synergy between the hips, torso, arms, bat, eye, and brain.

Using machines as well as body resistance training and a little bit of free weights, specific movement training exercises are used to improve a player’s baseball hitting to take him to another level. The best batting coaches know of these various exercises. If you want to improve your baseball hitting or help your son or daughter improve theirs, research these exercises and talk to these batting instructors. They’re a lot easier to find than Nolan Ryan’s fastball was!

Baby Shower Foods

A baby shower is a happy, lighthearted event that is entertaining for parents-to-be and their family and friends. It is a party or a celebration that is traditionally organized before the birth of a new baby or sometimes, just after the baby arrives. A best friend, a close family member or a co-worker of the mom-to-be typically arranges this party. Most guests bring gifts and money for the mother and the baby.

Only women attend a majority of the baby showers. Nevertheless, a small percentage of men also attend these parties or they have “daddy showers” of their own. Usually, baby showers are for the first child only, but some parents choose to have baby showers for all their babies.

Baby shower invitations should include information about the who, what, when, and where of the event, as well as RSVP details and the couple’s registry information. As far as food and refreshments are concerned, it is best to consult with the mom-to-be regarding the menu, as this can be a seriously touchy time for her taste buds. Lastly, keep the shower short. Two to three hours is enough; otherwise, it could be quite taxing for the mom-to-be.

“Non-traditional” baby showers are celebrated with a special theme. It can be a tea party or a baby brunch with various themes related to babies. Surprise baby showers are wonderful and exciting, but sometimes they can be terribly awkward for the mom-to-be. One must carefully plan these surprise baby showers and see to every possible intricacies. He/she should be well versed with the tastes of the mom-to-be and take care of the minute details pertaining to decoration, food, ambience, music and so on.

The food planned for the baby shower should be healthy and nutritious for the pregnant woman. Some foods should be carefully cooked while some others should be strictly avoided. Meat should be cooked very thoroughly, to avoid toxoplasmosis. Caffeine like chocolates and tea may have a certain risk and are best avoided. Fruits and vegetables may contain toxoplasmosis; they should be washed thoroughly. Food that contains raw eggs, like homemade mayonnaise or ice cream, must be avoided. Eggs must be cooked until the whites and yolks have become solid. Certain herbal teas should be avoided, if possible. Liver pate or sausage and liver contain too much vitamin A, and that could harm the baby. Due to certain risk factors certain fish, sushi and soft cheeses should not be served, either.

Although baby shower menu should reflect the theme, the time of day and the number of guests are equally important. It should be a celebration for the mom-to-be or the parents-to-be, her guests, and the host/hostess. Consider the special dietary needs of the mom-to-be and her guests along with the amount of time and room available for the shower. Low fat cooking recipes help the mom-to-be and her guests make healthy food choices. Baby shower cake with fun ideas will do double-duty as a centerpiece. Non-alcoholic punch and healthy salads could be the other main items. Finger foods are best served on such occasions, as they are easy to handle. The desserts should be served in individual pieces and on small doilies or muffin cups. It is best to avoid foods that are overly sticky or might melt too fast.

Secret Painting Tool Tips For the Homeowner – Article 3

Secret Painting Tool Tips For the Homeowner – Article 3

I have a question for you, just how much time have you spent at the home store trying to figure out which, (if any) of the “handy dandy” paint accessories actually will save you time and money? I’ll bet you’ve even tried a couple of them and been discouraged.

You are not alone……

This is number 3 in a series of 3 articles that I’ll explain honestly what has worked for me over the years and why it is well worth the small amount of extra time and money in order to have the finished product you truly want and deserve.

How Much Paint to Buy?

That’s a nagging question….A typical gallon of paint will cover 350 square feet on the average. Always make sure you look at the paint can label, some paint coverage will vary.

Another important factor is what is currently on the wall? How old is that paint, what sheen is (or was) that paint? Here in the dry southwest, paint won’t last as long. Meaning, the paint seems to “suck” into the surface making the new paint project require more coats. More on that in a minute.

So measure the room, length, width, and height. Now measure the doors and windows and subtract from the walls…not a math major? Fortunately you have a good option, search “wall paint calculator” and input the room measurements, doors windows etc. and the calculator will give you the number of gallons of paint you need for ONE coat.

Now let’s talk about the existing surface, primer and number of coats.

If your room hasn’t been painted in quite sometime or if you are painting over a strong color, (think red or dark blue etc) you will need to prime the walls before painting. This step is necessary because if you skip this step, the walls will look streaky, and you possibly will need more than two coats.

Priming the walls first is also required if you are painting a deep color, ie: red or dark blue. If you don’t prime first the selected color will be lighter, think pink……

Here’s a Trick: Have the paint store tint the primer to the color you will be painting the walls.

Here’s a Tip: If your chosen color starts with a “deep tint base” you will need to tint the primer and paint 2 coats.

Most painting projects require 2 coats, so if the wall paint calculator says you need 2 and ? gallons, add one gallon for the second coat. You’ll be glad you took the time and spent a bit more money, because the finished project will not only look better but will last a lot longer even here in the southwest.

Prepping Made Simple:

Ok you’ve chosen the color, bought the primer and paint, have your tools ready; prepping the room is the 1st step.

If possible, empty the room. If not pull furniture 3 to 4 feet from the walls. If you are painting the ceiling, don’t pile everything in the center of the room till after the ceiling is painted. Cover all furnishings and flooring with drops.

Remove all switch plates and outlet covers. Dust the corners; (vacuum is better than rags) wash the walls with water and a detergent to remove any grease and or dirt. Fix any cracks, patch holes, sand and match texture.

Now a word about tape……..

Ask 10 people whether to tape or not and you get a 50 / 50 divide.

As a general rule, I don’t tape. I will in selected circumstances, but generally speaking it wastes more time than is helps. When I started painting, an older gentleman I was working with encouraged me to learn how to paint cleanly without tape. So, over the years I’ve found it more beneficial to learn how to be very precise and wipe any “wiggles” as I go.

That said, taping is not a bad thing. If you don’t paint everyday, do take the time to tape. Use blue or green painters tape, and tape off baseboards, windows, door frames, any area where you need to cut in before you roll.

After you paint, remove the tape as soon as possible while the paint it still wet or you’ll be taking some of that new paint with the tape!

Here’s a Trick: Here in the southwest many walls have “bullnose” (rounded) edges instead of sharp corners, and often there is an orange peel texture. If you try to paint a straight line on this, you’ll make yourself crazy, with or without tape! A handy trick: tape the edge where you want the straight line. Now caulk the edge of the tape with a tiny bead and with a damp cloth wipe the caulk towards the tape. Paint, then remove the tape. Voila! A straight line on texture!

Left Over Paint Disposal:

Your painting project is finished, your room is beautiful, and you’ve saved enough for touch up but have more paint left over. What do you do? If you have used latex paint, the answer is simple. Take off the can lid,and let the paint dry in the can, Once the paint is dry it can be disposed of with household trash. If oil based, the cans must be disposed of as hazardous waste, another reason to use water based paint!

There you have it, some tricks and tips to help with your painting project.

Go ahead and tackle the paint…you can do it!!! Painting is the most effective way to change a room.
