Email autoresponders are extremely powerful indispensable marketing tools for any business on the Internet whether that business is an “online business” or an offline business with an Internet presence. In fact you’d be better off not to affirm at all because this sort of negative affirmation is like affirming the opposite of what you want. Remember, to affirm means to make firm. It is the process of bringing things into form. Instead of saying, “I will quit smoking,” which is both in the future and negative, say something like:

Do you want to build a home, but you don’t know where to start? Back a couple years ago our family wondered the same thing, and wondered whether or not we could. We were naive to think we could go it alone but we did do just that. We learned how with-

· No previous experience

· No special tools

· No mortgage- debt free

· No build a home plans

How did we do it? The truth is we worked very hard, we stuck together and we searched for creative (no money!) solutions to every problem.

It really was a lot of work learning how- actually doing the work was not that difficult. We didn’t know where to turn for accurate information or building plans or where we would get help and advice to finish the project.

Contractors didn’t want to share their ‘build a home trade secrets’ with us, even when we worked for them. It is hard earned knowledge that is for sure and it is their business so we do understand their point.

What does the family who really wants to build a home do? They just go ahead and do it anyways, that’s what they do.

You will want to start by finding a piece of property that suits your family’s needs to build a home. Decide on your priorities- how big a property, rural or urban? access to services, price etc. Tell a competent real estate agent (or tell a few of them) what it is that you are looking for. Yes, finding a competent real estate agent who will give you professional advice is a must. Just ask around they seem to be everywhere, but one name will keep coming back to you, that’s the one to listen to.

Next, you will need some house plans and design help. You can readily find this kind of help depending on what you want to pay for it. Just dig around.

Hire a contractor, dig your footings and get started.

Our family has helped many other families in the area do just this. It has been our experience, depending on how much help they have that the average family can in under a year- completely debt free, with no special tools, and no previous experience if they are willing to work hard at it.

Some families take longer, but most can get the job done with proper directions in that amount of time. It really has been a family project for us. Our whole family was involved in laying blocks, putting up walls, even putting the roof on too. It was a lot of work to build a home for each and every one of us but well worth it.

That’s when you notice that one of them has Sunkist stamped on it. Which one will you buy? Well if you are like 99.999% of the country, you will by the Sunkist orange. Why? Because over the years, Sunkist has promised you an orange that not only looks good, tastes good, but is also good value for money. Now comes the kicker, you see, there is very good chance that you would probably still buy the Sunkist brand, even if you had to pay a penny or so more for it. That is what building a brand leader is all about. At the moment of truth, if all things are equal then there is a good chance that the “brand” will be the purchase choice, and even command a premium price for the product.

Placement

Next is Placement. In my brand concept overview I have listed Distribution, Location, Stores, Transportation and Plant. Now these are generic headings, and you may well be able to add more that are pertinent to your specific industry. I want you to imagine that all of these areas are like a full-page advertisement for your company. They should all have the communications message that is consistent with the rest of the campaign approach you are now working on. I know that this is somewhat unusual, but every single piece of communication affects the end user or consumer in some way shape or form. You see it really is the logo on the truck, but it’s also the logo on the driver’s shirt, the cleanliness of the truck and the way in which the delivery person interacts with the customer. They should act the way you want them to, the way you want your brand to be enacted. This should all be scripted, leaving nothing to chance or choice! They are your brand image.

Promotion

Promotion is the area that we think of most when discussing brand and brand impression. Promotion covers the vast area of communication. From the very essence of the brand to it’s image, Advertising, Sales Promotion, Direct Mail, Internet advertising, Public Relations, Marketing, Sales Force, and Point of Sale. There are so many different elements, that it would take a whole series of articles to even get started. However, I would strongly recommend that you remember what I said at the beginning, “Consistency” should be pervasive throughout all of the components. Sometimes you don’t have to have a great design as long as you are consistent with the creative and the message.

People

As I mentioned earlier, People are the one area that makes my 4P’s of Branding different from the 4P’s of Marketing. People are involved in every step of the production of your product or service, and people are the Brand. Your employees, Dealers or Distributors, End Users, Vendors, Friends and honestly the Rest of the World. Every employee represents the brand, the people in the Accounting Department, Shipping, Research, Legal, Shop Floor, Marketing, and on throughout the company. It’s not just the Sales Department! Think about this – your accounting department calls someone in your clients accounting department on a regular basis. Maybe it’s to chase money, to clear up a billed consignment that perhaps got lost. But this is also a chance for your accounting person to get a little closer and find out how your company is doing with them, the customer. This is a great opportunity to get inside information.

How are we doing? Why do you think our competition is getting the lion share of the business? How can we do a better job for your company? And many other questions that you would like answered, I would go so far as to try to get these two people together, give them the opportunity to get closer, go out to lunch on you. It will pay back dividends in the long run.

There are many more opportunities to make your brand grow, make sure you follow the golden rules, passion, consistency of message and multiple quality impressions, and your brand will be on it’s way to becoming a brand leader.

A chunk of every home building budget goes to the inspector. Those sneaky people who come to poke around, slow you down, and make you redo what you’ve already done. Sometimes it seems like your local building authority is ready to dispatch one to analyze every move you make.

 

Are you planning to build or remodel? Well, you gotta pay the man. And sometimes those building department fees really add up.

 

Owner Builders and the Local Building Authority

 

Over the years, I’ve discovered that owner builders are mystified by the requirements of their local building authorities. They worry about the code requirements, the submission of plans, and the inspections. Often, owner builders are baffled by what seems like unjustifiable costs for permits.

 

Here’s an outline of some of the costs you should expect and the reasons you are being charged. My goal isn’t necessarily to justify them, but to reduce the mystery so that you can be empowered to move forward with your project.

 

The Dreaded “Permits & Fees”

 

Just another form of taxation? I hear that a lot and in a way, it could be true. Building Departments are government agencies and salaries and bureaucracies cost money. But, let’s take a look at this from a practical standpoint so you can figure your costs and budget accordingly.

 

These represent some of the most common and your agencies could require more or less:

 

Compliance with universal and local building codes: You’re actually paying for them to hire structural engineers to review every single plan that comes across their desk each day. They scrutinize every aspect of the structure.

Health and Safety departments: Fire safety and other departments have to put their stamps of approvals on things.

Parks and common areas: Expansion and maintenance of local parks & recreation departments are often involved in cities and counties.

Schools: This, as well as all of the fees, can vary. Is your area growing rapidly?

Utilities and hook-ups: Gaining access to city sewer, electrical grid, water, etc. can be rather costly but the alternatives can be substantially more expensive.

Mitigation and variances: It is becoming quite common in many areas to charge impact fees to help find ways to balance growth and building with the environment. If you’re in an area where this is prevalent, the fees can be exorbitant.

Periodic inspections: Yes, these are the guys and gals that come and snoop around.
 

So what does all this add to the cost of building a home? Generally, you can figure on less than 5% of your overall budget. Your local building authority should be happy to provide you with a list of all the fees and I recommend that is one of the first things you should do when thinking about building.

 

Where to Get Help With Complying

 

Finally, you very likely need some help getting your plans through the building department’s approval processes. As always, I advise people to use experienced building professionals and recommend a home building coach. Your coach will point you towards other professionals as well.

 

Another suggestion would be to use a local architect, designer, or drafter in conjunction with a structural engineer. With this approach, most of your fears will vanish as they will not only design the home in accordance with all the codes, they will back up their work and make any changes the building authority requires.

The wind generator tower is the biggest part of the unit. You will find that as you build a home wind turbine, the easiest thing to do will be to get an old TV antennae tower and reuse it. People will actually pay you to remove them from their houses so you can even make some money doing it!

The only other thing you will need to build a home wind turbine are the batteries and charge controllers. This is what will enable you to store power for use in your house.
