I recently purchased the greenDIYenergy.com guide so I could see exactly what came with it and give it an honest review. After reviewing all the materials and implementing their instruction, here is what I’ve decided:

One of the nice things about green DIY energy is the video library. These videos are professionally done and serve as great visual examples of what you need to be doing during every step of the construction process. They follow the guide as he constructs his own panels and he does a great job of narrating and explaining what he is doing the entire time.

The one thing that is lacking in these videos, is a video covering rooftop installation. I really would have liked to see a video covering the mounting of solar panels onto the roof. It is covered in the manuals, but not in the videos.

Another solid guide you may be interested in is Earth 4 Energy. It is similar to Green DIY Energy in that it provides manuals and video tutorials about building solar panels and wind turbines. It has roughly the same amount of info and costs about the same as well.

I definitely am partial to DIY guides (mainly because I’m a bit inept when it comes to building things!), but that definitely doesn’t mean that you must have a guide to build your solar panels.

If you have experience with construction, electric wiring and soldering, you could definitely save the $50 and not buy a guide. Do a little reading up online about wiring, soldering and mounting solar panels and I doubt you will have any problem. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you luck in your DIY ventures! Affirmations are probably the easiest and most effective method – compared to the effort involved – known to influence the conscious mind. Many of the world’s most intelligent experts and philosophers have used, and are using this technique, which has been handed down over thousands of years, in various guises such as mantras and prayers. The difference today, because of the now more wide spread knowledge of this technique, is that people from all walks of life are using them to meet people, win tournaments, heal disease and close business deals.

Affirmations are quite simple by their very nature, as all they really are is simple statements repeated regularly to yourself, whether silently or aloud, and practical to you at the time. You can do them anywhere, you decide upon a statement that represents what you want to have happen to you, and then you simply repeat it to yourself over and over again.

As an example, let’s say you find yourself in a familiar situation which normally upsets you and leaves you worn out and stressed, when actually you would prefer to be relaxed and unworried by it, this would be the exact time when using a positive affirmation would be beneficial to you, and in this situation a good example of an affirmation you would repeat to yourself to help change the situation could be ” I feel calm and relaxed, I feel calm and relaxed, I feel calm and relaxed”. Now at this point it is important that you don’t try to force yourself to feel calm and relaxed, just make sure that you keep repeating the affirmation to yourself for approx 5 minutes. Another quick example of a positive use of affirmations would be prior to attending an important business meeting that you would like to go well; this time you would begin affirming to yourself a few minutes beforehand with something like this “It’s going to be a great meeting, It’s going to be a great meeting.”

So Exactly What are You Doing When You do Affirmations?

When you use affirmations you are influencing, directly, the very thoughts that are occurring at any one specific time in your mind. As your mind can only hold one thought at a time, an affirmation works by cramming your mind and filling it with thoughts that support your goal. It’s quite clever really; in a simple way the words are suggesting to your mind what it should be thinking, so if you are affirming ” It’s going to be a great meeting ” then your mind naturally begins thinking related thoughts about it being a great meeting. It really is quite simple really, but the technique can be remarkably effective in helping you achieve the results you are looking for.

How do You Know if You are Doing it Right?

Well it’s all in the words you choose, they must be POSITIVE not negative, and, as gratitude forms part of the whole attraction process, you should include words that also convey this. For example, I use the following terminology to start all of my affirmations, taught by a great mentor of mine, Bob Proctor (from The Secret, Movie) no matter what I am affirming ” I am so Happy and Grateful now”. These words you will notice also use another important aspect of affirmations, they must always be in the present tense, as if you already have whatever it is happen. So if for example you have a money affirmation to bring more financial abundance into your life you could say ” I am so Happy and Grateful Now That Money is Attracted to me and I am attracted to money” or, for more opportunities to appear to you, you could say ” I am so Happy and Grateful Now That New Opportunities are Presented to me From Multiple Sources on a Continuous Basis”

You actually don’t even need to believe what you are affirming! This mistake can have a counter effect and nullify the effects. I know of many people who have used affirmations unsuccessfully mainly because they were trying to force themselves to believe. By the way, don’t get me wrong, if you DO believe what you are affirming, this will only serve to enhance, but if you don’t, then that’s OK too. You don’t have to force anything; by the process of repetition your mind will pick up the content of your affirmations and will therefore allow the correct thoughts into your consciousness.

You must also keep your affirmations reasonably short and to the point, easy to say and easy to repeat over and over again. I try to keep my affirmations to a maximum of 25 words, sometimes a lot less. Even 2 or 3 words can sometimes be an effective affirmation, short statements like ” I have tremendous success always” or ” I achieve record sales ” I have seen affirmations that were a full page long. There’s absolutely no chance that you can repeat an affirmation of that length in an effective manner, and I have found with people who have affirmations which are too long, soon tire of the repetition and the affirmation soon fizzles out. So the lesson here is, make it short and make it easy to say and repeat.

Also be very careful that you do not use your affirmations in a careless way that means they may work against you, for example statements like ” I’ll never get it done” I’ll never do it” I always lose” are all affirmations that you can easily find yourself repeating to yourself without even realizing it, so watch out for these.

So remember that anybody can create affirmations and use them effectively throughout the day to help accomplish the things that they want. They can be said anywhere, in the doctor’s waiting room, in a traffic jam, they don’t need to be believed, all you have to do is repeat them. I repeat my affirmations 5 times per day, however this is my personal preference which works well for me, but if I was to recommend a minimum I would say 3 times per day, first thing when you get out of bed in the morning – this sets the tone for the rest of the day – secondly, at lunch time – this helps to re-motivate you when typically you might be flagging – and thirdly just before you go to sleep – this is when your subconscious mind is in its most receptive state. Two or three minutes is all you need, start doing this now and commit to repeating every day and you will be amazed at how quickly you will begin to produce a noticeable affect.

Remember that your affirmations are going to be much more affective that much faster if you can invoke your emotions while saying them. Your thoughts are energy and your emotions put those thoughts into motion.

You stir up a much stronger emotional response when you raise your voice and vary your inflection oppose to when you just read something off in a monotone voice.

Your emotions will be stronger still if you give your attention to the words as you say them instead of uttering the words with your mouth while your mind is wondering off on anything other than the task at hand.

Thoughts are energy and the emotions you put behind your thoughts set your life in motion. If you constantly are affirming that money is hard to come by, then don’t be surprised if you receive small raises from your employer, barely meet your social obligations, and have trouble accumulating wealth.

When did Negative Thinking Start

You’ve likely been thinking this way for a long time and if it were working for you I doubt that you’d be here, reading this article. Thinking in a way that doesn’t suite you was most likely thrust upon you as a young child by people who had learned to think and act the way they did from the people that surrounded them as a child.

Now here you sit with so much knowledge literally at your fingertips and you realize that you have the power to change your experience. It may seem too easy but I say… it’s just as easy as it should be.

Mirror Affirmations

If you don’t spend much of any time looking into your own eyes I can’t recommend doing it enough. I’ve done this before I even fully understood the significance or the impact of it. For me it feels like reconnecting to something within myself, like I was starring into something that knew and understood my many anguishes. Which is true, no one understands me and my experiences the way I do.

Looking into my own eyes gives me great comfort and peace and brings me back to the present moment when I have slipped off into worry about the future or sadness about the past. I am comforted and soothed with a calm that words just don’t seem to measure properly.

Another way to look at this is to realize that some of the most powerful and emotionally striking messages we’ve received have been from others who looked us directly in the eye.

You taking the time to look into your own eyes when you say something solidifies the importance and the power of your own message.

But seriously, don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself. Look into your eyes and just say hello, say I love you, or any one of the many affirmations listed below.

If you’re scoffing at this idea remember how many times you’ve stood in front of the mirror getting ready or passed by your reflection and let out a deep and heavy-hearted sigh at some aspect of your body that just measure up to how you’d like it to be.

Recall the countless times you condemned yourself for not being better at something or for not doing more in a day.

The only difference here is that instead of affirming something negative about yourself you are affirming something positive about yourself.

You can change your thinking and thereby your experience by taking control of your thoughts. You must realize that you have a say in what plays in your mind. You do not have to think thoughts that don’t suite you.

As Wayne Dyer says, “Change your thoughts and you will change your life.”

Writing Your Affirmations

When you write out affirmations of your own then do so describing your ideal situations and be specific, be crystal clear on exactly what you would like to experience. Write each one 10 times to really get them imprinted on your mind.

Relationship Affirmations

Below are affirmations concerning relationships. If you are not presently in a relationship the idea here is to be thinking only of the ideal relationship you desire. If you continually think of your relationship disasters then you will go on to have similar experiences as you try to move your life forward.

If you are in a relationship and wish to tailor these affirmations, then you would say something like, “Joan and I are very patient with each other.”

What’s Next

The positive talk is great in helping you feel better and is instrumental in bringing better experiences into your life. But you’re not likely to find your ideal match sitting on your couch when you return from the bathroom during a commercial break of your favorite sit-com. You must give your words action.

You must go places, you must do things, and you must interact with the world. For example, if you’ve always wanted to learn how to khaki then take a community course with a friend, you never know who will be doing the same.

If you like to read, do so in a public place. Simply go to a coffee shop for a while, have some tea, and read for an hour or so. Join a club and become activity in the things that interest you. You are surrounding yourself with like minded people, and you are further allowing the universe to do its job.

If you want someone to cuddle you on those chili evenings you have to put yourself out into the world.

How to Use These Affirmations

Set aside a few minutes each day, preferably first thing in the morning or right before bed when your subconscious mind seems most open. Invoke your emotions, sit in front of the mirror, look into those beautiful eyes of yours and proclaim your affirmation. Get excited about the new life you are beginning, think about the new possibilities and adventures.

Give yourself praise for being brave and busting out of an old and familiar way that was getting you nowhere.

The more persistent you are with an affirmation the more it becomes the natural nature of your thoughts. You will be surprised and delighted at how differently you feel after only a short time of affirming your best life.

Affirmations really work for a lot of people. I have heard countless stories, firsthand, of people manifesting income, lovers, children, lost items and events that are joyful beyond words. Others however, do a smash up job of sabotaging their affirmations efforts at every turn and end up with nothing they affirmed and usually being farther behind than when they started. Is it the fault of the affirmation? Are the gods out to get this person because of bad karma? Well, maybe but I doubt it. The answer is really much simpler than dirty karma or cheesed off affirmations elves – the answer is in the flow.

You see life has a flow and sometimes you are racing downstream with your goal clear in sight. Your fans are cheering you on from the shore – you can see your goal, you can smell it and sometimes even feel it between your fingertips. Other times you meander down a shallow creek sometimes running up on a dry creek bed or even getting caught in an overhanging tree. In the end the tree branch saves your life and you reach your goal. It’s later than planned – but you get where you want just the same. Both of these events are part of life. Affirmers sometimes interpret these life events incorrectly and get themselves in a big muddle and end up tossing a super result down the ‘life toilet’. Here is a great (and real) example:

Harry is focusing on manifesting a job that is closer to his creative gifting. He is a freelancer and for the last two years he has been doing projects that have been lucrative, but not exactly in line with his creative area. Harry has been aggressively affirming:

“I am now working with my creative talents and being paid handsomely for it”.

So far it seems to make sense. As well as his job affirmation, Harry has been affirming to attract some new friends and live in a warmer climate. One day an old contact calls up Harry and asks him to work with him on a new product for a few months. Harry will be paid well, however, it is not in line with Harry’s creative gifts. Harry is not busy with other projects but decides to not take the work because he wants to stay true to his affirmation:

“I am now working with my creative talents and being paid handsomely for it”.

Harry continues to work his affirmation for the next two months. That old contact runs into Harry in a local coffee shop and mentions he still needs help with is product launch and lets Harry know he can still come on board. Harry, frustrated at his lack of progress with manifesting his job goal, again, says he is not interested. Later that week Harry tosses his affirmation in the garbage and angrily curses that darn blog that claimed ‘affirmations really work’.

Whoops. Harry really blew it. Here is what was going on in the background while Harry was affirming and affirming for his creative talents to be used. Remember the client that called Harry and wanted help with that new product line? He was the bridge that would get Harry moved to a warmer climate within the next year. That new product line caught the eye of a wealthy angel investor that wanted the whole team to relocate to San Diego. That wealthy investor was to become Harry’s best friend. Three years later Harry’s best friend would invest in a creative idea that Harry dreamt about one warm San Diego night – That idea was the perfect match for Harry’s creative talents.

Ouch. Well cheer up, Harry will never know any of this. Harry will continue on and think affirmations don’t work and maybe reach his goal but it will be hard and it will probably take a long, long, long, long, time. Most likely Harry will spend a lot of time being discouraged, angry and unhappy.

Life is not a linear ruler that we can sit on and see from one side to the other. It twists, turns and wanders all about. Think about how you met your spouse, or a really good friend. Was it planned? Did you wake up one morning and say “Today I will meet a great person that I will spend the next 20 years with?” Likely not. Affirmations sometimes work the same way too. We affirm for a certain item to come to pass. We visualize. We meditate and we affirm some more. We are religious in our practice day in day out. Suddenly, one day, an opportunity presents itself for us to get involved in something, or we get invited to an event, or our car breaks down and a co-worker offers us a lift, or a neighbor offers to call us a plumber because our sink is plugged. We turn down the opportunity, we decline the invitation, we take a cab and we get out the plunger and start plunging. After all, these offers don’t line up with our affirmations.

Or do they?

Accepting the flow in life in one of the best gifts you can give yourself and the key to seeing results from your affirmations. Remember flow means ‘flow’. It takes no effort and it seems to appear from nowhere with you doing nothing to bring it to you. The next time you get an unexpected telephone call from someone you have not heard from in ten years, take notice. The next time you are offered something you were not expecting, think about it. And the next time you are affirming – be open to leaving the how’s of your affirmation up to those affirmation elves*. I think they know what they are doing.

*Affirmation elves do not exist, I think.

For the very computer savvy young person who probably already has more than a few micro-chips permanently coded into their DNA, the above question might sound rather silly. However, for many of us, understanding just exactly how online or Internet faxing works, is still a bit more puzzling, especially for those of us who are used to faxing the old-fashion way through the good old reliable fax machine in the office.

And that doubly goes for those of us who don’t necessarily keep up to date on the latest developments in technology. For older workers who have always used the traditional fax machine, online faxing can be seen as down-right perplexing. With the traditional way of faxing, we are used to punching in a few numbers and scanning off the fax in the machine in order to send a fax.

Now, with online fax, I have to use computers and the Internet? What’s up with that?

Like the introduction of any new technology there is a learning curve, especially for seasoned workers and small business owners who are set in their ways. Online fax has become extremely popular but there are still many people and many businesses not taking full advantage of this new way of faxing.

Perhaps, the biggest obstacle, a lot of people simply don’t understand how online fax works? They might know it has something to do with computers and the web, but just how does it work?

First, you must understand, online fax is simply using your email system and your Internet connection to send your faxes. You sign-up to an Internet Fax service provider who gives you your own local or Toll-Free fax number and you are also given an online site (interface) where you can view and send your faxes. This online provider acts as your intermediary to handle all your faxing. You use your fax number to receive and send your faxes as email attachments, usually in TIFF or PDF formats.

But how does it work?

This question was actually put to Christian Watts, the co-founder of FAXAGE, an online fax service provider operating out of Denver. Here’s his answer:

“Ultimately, every Internet Fax service works by receiving faxes by having some sort of dedicated phone numbers coming in to fax servers at their site or sites. Once a fax is received on the fax server, it is converted to a suitable format (PDF or TIFF with FAXAGE, PDF by default) and then sent to the customer. In our case, we send these as email attachments and store them in our website as well by default. We offer many customizable parameters around the messaging for received faxes, ability to route ‘fax received’ emails to an unlimited number of email addresses, API methods for receiving faxes into systems, etc.

On the sending side, the process is reversed – the customer sends in an electronic document (either via email, website, or, in the case of FAXAGE, an API method is also provided), the system converts it to a format suitable for faxing (The fax standard is G3 or G4 TIFF) and sends it out via a fax server. Status is then posted to the FAXAGE website as well as emailed back by default. Again, we offer a lot of flexibility around number of retries, resolution to use, priority control, which users can send faxes in a given account, etc.”

Basically, what you’re doing is switching all your faxing chores over to the computer, the Internet and your email system. You are simply bringing your faxing into the modern computer age. Just as you have modernized many other aspects of your business, you should also modernize your faxing. Keep in mind, you can still send and receive faxes thru the old fax machine but now you have the option of using computers and the web.

Obviously, online fax must have many benefits or advantages, otherwise everyone would still be using the old fax machine. In other words, why has Internet faxing become so popular?

Mainly because with Internet fax you and your business are no longer tied down to the fax machine in the office, you can send and receive your faxes anywhere, anytime. Online fax is also cheaper because you don’t need an extra fax phone line, no need to purchase all that paper, inks and toners since online faxing is paperless.

Internet fax is ideally suited for companies since it is completely “scalable” for your growing business, you can quickly add more lines/numbers without having to install all the needed hardware as with the old way of faxing. It can also make your business more competitive, especially if you depend on faxing to bring in new sales and/or clients… your business is open 24/7, 365 days of the year.

Simply put, online fax works by utilizing all the modern contractions of the workplace, mainly your computer, your email system and the Internet. It uses all of these to give you fast, inexpensive, reliable faxing that’s available anytime, anywhere. What more could you ask for?

As people begin to realize the importance and value of our thoughts in creating the life we desire (or the life we have, but would like to change), affirmations can be instrumental in re-training ourselves in how to think. Before we begin thinking, we start out a relatively clean slate. 

As we pick up beliefs and ways of thinking throughout life we begin to think that who we think we are is who we actually are.  This is not the absolute truth.  In actuality, we are much more than we could ever imagine and the negative stuff we have picked up along the way is something we can part with, because it’s not our true essence.

The purpose of affirmations is to affirm the truth and desires about ourselves and our circumstances. What can happen as we begin to focus on what we want and actually verbalize those desires in the form of affirmations, is the stuff that gets in our way will let itself be known.  This is the stuff that life has caused us to believe is really us. 

Are affirmations a way to circumvent reality?  Some people use them that way, but clearly intentional use will yield the truth every time: affirmations only affirm what is really inside.  It just needs some affirmation to be fully realized, inside and out.

When people view an affirmation as a band-aid to a problem, the problem they are referring to is the stuff that has stopped you from feeling that the affirmation is true, through and through. Affirmations are most useful when put into practice as a tool to help one get to know him or herself better through clarifying wants and determining unhelpful thoughts and patterns so they can be released.  That ensures the affirmation is healing the cause and not being used as a band-aid.

Your True Self knows you are totally lovable and loving, that you have every resource available to you (even if it is in a different form than you may expect), and that you can make your life into what you want it to be. However, your ego or inner critic, will tell you otherwise.

Practicing affirmations deserves your full attention.  It is of great value to bring affirmations into your life to invite the stuff blocking your way to come up and show you where you can let go and let your True Self shine through. All you need to do is make a simple commitment to yourself: I will be open to be with what is coming up.

You do not always need to know exactly what the issue is that is presenting itself, or the root cause. If it does show itself to you, that is fine. If not, the feeling can still be tended to.

When uncomfortable feelings or thought patterns rise to the surface, much like bubbles coming up from an underwater spring, allow yourself to be with them. Take a few deep breaths and refrain from giving them names (if they don’t have a script running already) or getting involved in the story that goes with them. Ask your feeling or thought what they are about if you desire. Know that acknowledging the uncomfortable feeling will help it dissolve. Do not push against it for that is what has kept it with you to this point. 

If you find yourself resisting feeling negative emotion simply remember that it is okay to feel what you feel!  Dealing with painful or stressful emotions or thoughts can be well handled through first allowing yourself to feel them by deeply breathing and following your breath into your body while imagining it cleansing and honoring the emotion, and second, seeking out some techniques to assist if they persist. Working through emotions can be achieved through a coaching session as well.

To get started with affirmations, it is as easy as bringing to mind some statements that on some level you know to be true or you would like to feel the truth of such as: I love me. I am perfect, whole, and worth of goodness. I am financially free. Begin by saying and writing these statements to yourself at least 5 times per day, 10-20 will have a more profound effect. This is the power of changing your thoughts with deliberate action.

As you progress, remember the importance of allowing whatever is standing in your way to come up and dissolve. It may also be helpful to ask yourself questions about your affirmations such as

How would it be possible for me to be financially free?

Why do I love myself?

What about me is perfect and whole?

It is initially natural to question one’s self so use your mind to your advantage in this manner!

Affirmations are not a band-aid.  They are an affirmation of who you truly are and what you can truly do with your life when you learn to believe them.  To believe something you must think it over and over again.

Using affirmations is helpful along any journey to self-love and conscious creation of your life.  It is important to realize that creating affirmations with clear intention is a learned skill.  Start with affirmations that are just out of your belief, but you think may be true. For instance, if saying I love me to yourself feels funny, but sort of true you can stretch it to include other affirmatve statements like I love me and I am fun to be around or I am open to loving myself and I am learning to like myself.

To help yourself get out of your own way, be gentle with yourself as you change and grow and modify your affirmations as necessary.  If an affirmation does not feel good, change it!  Use affirmations daily and often for as long as you desire and know that many people use them for months to feel and notice a substantial change.  We create our thought patterns that are not helpful and use them for decades.  To re-train ourselves it takes some time as well.  Perseverance pays off!

Repeating affirmations is a self-talk method that has a powerful affect on everyone’s life. Affirmations are effective, because the mind regards often-repeated thoughts and phrases as commands, and starts looking for ways to manifest them in our lives. The mind does not make distinctions between negative and positive self-talk, and treats them both in the same way.

In order to use affirmations, some basic knowledge is required.

1. The subconscious mind does not recognize the future tense. When you use affirmations, you should always speak using the present tense. You want to achieve your goal now, not in some indefinable future time. Affirm by using phrases, which imply that what you want to happen is happening in your life right now. For example, if your goal is to find a job, don’t say, “I will have a job”, but say, “I have a well paying and wonderful job, which I love and enjoy”.

2. Affirmations need to be positive and made up of positive words.

3. Affirmations should be specific. Tell your mind exactly what it is that you want.

4. It is advisable to keep the affirmations short and easy to remember.

5. You should also include feelings. You should feel that the affirmation is true. Feelings and emotions are the life force of your words. You have to believe what you are saying. You have to convince your mind that the affirmation is true. This is very important if you want to obtain results.

6. You may repeat affirmations at any time you want or at special times during the day. Immediately after waking up and before falling asleep are two very appropriate times, as at these times it is easier to get to the subconscious mind.

7. You may affirm aloud, mentally or by writing down the affirmations.

These are just basic instructions, but they will surely bring you results, if you follow them sincerely.
