Learn How You Can Identify Early Signs of Breast Cancer

Learn How You Can Identify Early Signs of Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer refers to the type of cancer that is characterized by the uncontrolled progression of abnormal cells located in the tissues of the breast. It is the second prevalent form of cancer affecting women with an incidence rate of one in every eight women.

Breast cancer comes in several form, the more common types are ductal carcinoma, which makes up approximately eighty five to ninety percent of breast cancers, and lobular carcinoma, found in about eight percent of breast cancer patients. Ductal carcinoma starts from the ducts that carry milk from the lobules to the nipple. When the cancer starts at the milk producing lobules, it is called lobular carcinoma.

There has yet to be a scientific explanation on how breast cells become abnormal and ultimately malignant. However, breast cancer is attributed to a combination of risk factors that a woman may inherit or acquire.

Some breast cancer risk factors are genetic in nature. It is widely accepted that women who have one or more relatives afflicted with breast cancer have a higher risk of having breast cancer incidence themselves. Studies show that some families have defects in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene and this account to about ten percent of breast cancer cases.

Hormonal risk factors are also involved in the formation of breast cancer. The female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, assists in the development and division of breast cancer cells. Women may increase their risk for breast cancer if they had hormonal replacement therapy during their menopausal stages.

Age and gender plays a key role in the development of cancerous cells in the breast. Women are thought to have a hundred percent likelihood of growing breast cancer than men especially those who area above the age of fifty.

A person’s overall health condition also factors in as a risk. Women who are less active and with less exercise have higher cancer development rate than those who have physically active. It is also well established that alcohol consumption and weight gain contributes to the incidence certain illnesses, including breast cancer.

Signs and Symptoms of Breast Cancer

Here are some signs that a woman may have breast cancer.

1. A painless lump growing in the breast area or armpit.

2. Unusual change in size and shape of the breast.

3. The nipple may produce a pus-like or clear discharge.

4. The color and texture of the skin, particularly the areola.

Women should immediately report occurrence of one or a combination of these symptoms to their physician so that early detection can be accomplished. The stage in which breast cancer is diagnosed largely identifies the treatment method needed and the survival rate that a patient may expect. For those who have detected the cancer growth at very early stages, the five year survival rate goes to as high as a hundred percent.

The following procedures are done in order to establish the breast cancer occurrence and identify the stage on which the cancer was diagnosed.

1. Physical Examination - your physician will examine your breast through visual inspection and palpation. In visual inspection, changes in the contour and texture of the breast will be noted. Appearance of sores, dimpling, nipple discharge, ulcers, nipple inversion and puckering may signify breast cancer occurrence. Your doctor will also use the pads of the finger to palpate the breast area for unusual bumps. Take note that benign tumors have a different feel from cancerous ones.

2. Mammography – is an important procedure that shows the development of cancerous tumors before they are physically or visually noticeable. This is done by using a high energy x-ray of the breast to check for abnormal breast tissue density and calcium deposits. Advancements in mammography have drastically reduced the fatality rate of breast cancer as the malignancy is often found using mammography at stages where it is highly curable.

3. Ultrasonography – The use of high frequency sound wave helps in identifying the state of breast lump. If a lump is solid, there is a great likelihood that it is cancer as opposed fluid-filled tumors which are usually non-cancerous.

4. Breast cancer biopsy – when an abnormal growth on a woman’s breast is detected, a biopsy is done to extract samples of its tissue. These samples examined in a laboratory to look for the presence of cancerous cells. Biopsies are done in three different ways. Fine needle aspiration uses a fine needle to withdraw cell samples from the suspected are. Surgical biopsy remove part or the entire suspected area, while large core biopsy uses a large core biopsy uses large needle to remove the core of the suspicious area.

After the detection of cancer, your physician will determine the phase of development of the cancer in order to establish the necessary treatment method. This is called staging and cancers are classified into five stages.

1. Stage Zero - also called carcinoma in situ is the earliest stage of the cancer. The cancer is still contained in the area where it originated and is not yet invasive. The neighboring lymph nodes and other organs are still free from cancer cells.

2. Stage One – this is a stage wherein the cancer solidifies but is still smaller than two centimeters and the cancer cells have not yet reached other tissues and organs.

3. Stage Two – in this stage, the cancer has not yet affected the lymph nodes in the underarm its size is about two to three centimeters.

4. Stage Three – is a stage where the cancer is larger than five centimeters and has already reached the lymph nodes in the underarm or other areas around the breast.

5. Stage Four – is when the cancer becomes metastatic or has spread to other organs of the body including the chest cavity, bones, lungs and liver. The cancer is often untreatable at this stage and the main goal of the treatment is to prolong the patient’s life expectancy.

Treatment for breast cancer is generally grouped into two methods.

1. Local treatment – these are treatments that remove or kill abnormal cells in a particular area. Surgery and Radiation therapy are two examples of this kind of treatment

2. Systematic treatment - are used for the control and elimination of cancer cells in the body. Examples of this treatment are chemotherapy and hormonal therapy.

Depending on the severity and location of the cancer growth and overall health condition of the patient, one or a combination of these treatments may be applied.

The most common treatment for cancer, surgical procedures may be done in two ways, sparing surgery and mastectomy. Breast sparing surgery or lumpectomy, removes the cancerous lumps but not the entire breast. In addition, a full lymph node dissection or a sentinel node dissection may be done to check whether the cancer has spread to adjacent areas.

Mastectomy involves the removal of the entire breast and is usually done when the tumor has becomes too large or has spread to the skin of the breast. A full lymph or sentinel lymph node dissection may also be performed alongside mastectomy.

In radiation therapy – a machine emitting high energy x-rays is used to radiate and damage the tumor and to stop the cells from growing. Radiation is often used after sparring surgery in order to eliminate abnormal cells and fight off metastasis and recurrence.

Surgery and radiation may not completely eliminate cancer cells. To kill cancer cells that have spread to other parts of the body, chemotherapy or hormonal therapy may be used. Chemotherapy involves the use of cancer cell killing drugs which may be administered intravenously or orally. Drugs such as adriamycin, cytoxan, paclitaxel or docetaxel are some samples of drugs used in chemotherapy.

Hormonal therapy is done in women with hormone positive receptor cancers. These forms of breast cancers rely on the female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, for its nutrient and development. Drugs such as Tamixofen, Arimidex, Aromasin and Femara are samples of drugs used in hormone therapy.

Learn German Quickly: 5 Mistakes to Avoid If You Want to Speak German Fast

Learn German Quickly: 5 Mistakes to Avoid If You Want to Speak German Fast

Whilst learning a language is definitely fun, the big rewards come when you can speak the language well. Whether you are learning it for travel, business, or just for fun, being able to speak another language will open up many new opportunities and experiences for you. Naturally, it is human nature to want to find faster and better ways of doing things. Unfortunately, many people take the wrong short-cuts, so instead of speeding up this process, they end up wasting a lot of time for little result. Let’s take a look at the top 5 mistakes to avoid if you want to speak good German quickly.

Mistake #1–Not Having a Plan

This sounds obvious, but it really is important at the very beginning to set yourself a step-by-step plan. Then, all you have to do is work through that plan, one step at a time. By taking the time to make a plan, you will create a logical structure that ensures you cover all important topics. This takes away the confusion of not knowing what you need to do, so that you can then give your full attention to the one step you are currently working on. By giving your full attention to each step, you’ll learn it much more effectively right then and there. Which means you will be able to move on to new topics sooner.

Mistake #2–Trying to do Too Much at Once

Many students make the mistake of trying to cover too much at once. Their desire to get through topics quickly results in information overload. You need to take it one step at a time. Let your mind soak up the topic. Practise the examples given and try some more examples of your own. Ask yourself if there is anything about that topic that you don’t fully understand. If there is, work it out first and then move on when you are ready. If you plough through your study at a hundred miles an hour, you will not pick things up properly the first time, and you will not remember it later on. Slow and steady is ultimately quicker.

Mistake #3–Being Afraid of Grammar

While grammar is usually the most difficult aspect of learning a language, it is also one of the quickest ways to improve. When you understand the logic behind a language, it helps your mind put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Just take it one step at a time, and soon enough German grammar will make sense to you. A great tip for all students is to memorize one example for each grammar rule. By doing this, you’ll quickly be able to apply that logic in other similar situations.

Mistake #4–Not Giving Equal Attention to Each of the 4 Language Skills

The four language skills–reading, writing, speaking and listening–are all important and you need to ensure that you practise each one of them equally. Many students learn with text books, phrase guides and dictionaries, which means that they can read and write well, but when it comes to listening and speaking, their skills are very poor. This problem is magnified when you go to Germany and find that the natives speak so quickly that you cannot understand a single conversation. So, it is important that you make a plan to include each of the four skills in your study routine. Using a good audio course will allow you to practise speaking and listening, as will a language swap with a native German speaker.

Mistake #5–Giving Up Before the Cumulative Learning Effect Kicks In

Studies have shown that it takes about six months before our brains develop long-term pathways for skills that we can then remember for a lifetime. What happens is that a lot of students give up just moments before they reach this point where the cumulative effect of their study so far really kicks in. In the first few weeks and months, you will make massive progress, much like cramming for an exam. However, you need to keep going for just a little bit longer until this new language gets locked into your brain for good.

Be sure to set yourself a good study routine that enables you to do a little bit of study on a regular basis. Short daily sessions of 30-60 minutes are ideal. Make each session focus on one topic, and be sure to work each of the four language skills. Keep this up and you’ll be speaking good German within 2-3 months. Keep it up for six months or so and you will be speaking good German for a lifetime!

What is Mindfulness?

The concept of mindfulness has actually been around for thousands of years. Its origins can be found in the earliest Buddhist teachings (2500 years ago). It has been used over the centuries in traditional eastern contemplative practices like Hatha Yoga and other meditation practices. Zen masters taught mindfulness to enlightened monks in the ultimate acceptance of their own existence.

However, the way we use the term here, Mindfulness should not be confused with inward focused mysticism or spirituality. Today Mindfulness not only refers to the acceptance of one’s reality but what one does with that reality. As we use it, Mindfulness is the skill of living in the moment and relating to the world in a nonjudgmental and reflexive as oppose to reactive fashion.

In recent years, science and westernization have adapted Mindfulness so that it can be cultivated daily, used without years of practice, and be compatible and useful within almost any modern human activity. Mindfulness is simply an introspective method for grounding your thoughts, emotions and behaviors in the reality you are currently experiencing, so you can stand back, observe, understand yourself more fully and take care of your needs.

The act of Mindfulness is the ability to focus your attention on your inner thoughts while letting go of past or future worries. It will take some practice to witness your thoughts popping up and then going away without self-criticism, but it can be achieved by most people without extensive training, just daily practice. For instance, just watching your breathing can have a calming effect on your mind and slowly restore your sense of well-being. When you quiet your thoughts about what you have to do and your feelings dictating what you want to do, your intuitive mind takes over. Here you gently move from dwelling on the past or future to being focused on what you are doing right at this moment. Being in this state of Mindfulness allows you to listen to your gut and discover what you truly need. Mindfulness allows you to acknowledge your feelings, witness your thoughts and redirect yourself away from distraction.

We live in era of constant upheaval and change. Actually, most of us get through life on autopilot. Our brain gets filled with restless ideas and memories that are hard to keep track of especially when we become stressed. We tend to “tune out” and just “try to get through the day.”

Everyone’s mind naturally wanders, but when you practice Mindfulness you are aware of your mind wandering and can gradually redirect it back to the present. Mindfulness allows you to gently quiet all the noise in your head. Paying attention to your breathing, tracking your thoughts, or scanning your body for tension are just few of the many ways to reduce mental chatter. With Mindful practice, you can learn to remove the tendency to jump to conclusions, make assumptions and idle judgments, and recognize that your negative or positive feelings are coming from you and not the external world around you.

Dr Marsha Linehan, founder of Evidence Based Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) says we need to adopt a “Reflexive Mind” in order to cope with distress and change. Here, your mind is trained to act like Teflon, nothing sticks to it long enough to attach. Mindfulness has been shown to bring calmness and patience to those who embrace the practice. People who practice daily Mindfulness are processing life rather than analyzing its content. The ultimate state of Mindfulness is mental resiliency.

In fact Mindfulness can also help you stay focused and aware even when you are engaged in mundane activities such as driving, eating, and walking. Research has shown its positive effects on boosting the immune system, managing pain, reducing stress and cultivating personal awareness.

A beginning Mindful sequence may involve:

- Sitting in a quiet and comfortable location

- Thinking about where you are and what you are doing at this very moment

- Closing your eyes

- Allowing thoughts about what already or will happen move in an out of your consciousness with your non-judging mind and gentle persuasion

- Focusing on the sensations of breathing each breath and noticing what that does to your belly, nostrils and lungs

- Making note of every thought and feeling that comes up and then returning to your breathing to further anchor your attention

- Observing your mind but, not getting stuck on any one particular thought or feeling as your breathing becomes more natural, full and steady

- Opening your eyes and looking at something you have seen before with a fresh perspective.

What are Affirmations?

Affirmations are declarative statements about something you now know, did, or intend to do. When you use an Affirmation you are not only being aware of your thoughts, but you are taking conscious control of them. When you say, write, read or even think of an Affirmation, you are, in effect, taking steps to acknowledge what is worthwhile about you.

Studies have shown that most of our daily thoughts are negative. Working with Affirmations makes you aware of how self-defeating thoughts chip away at your creativity. Affirmations help you create a new reality and visualize what you essentially want out of life.

Negativity can threaten your health and happiness. In fact, when you are not paying attention to your thinking, you are more liable to pessimistic and not realistic or optimistic. The more you are aware of what you are actually telling yourself, the more upbeat you will sound. Using command based phraseology, keeping the Affirmation in the present tense and making it reality based offers you more reinforcement. Repeatedly telling yourself that you are, or will be, deserving, healthy, and successful, the more your positive determination will flow. You’re more likely to see a bounce in your step and a lift in your life by using daily Affirmations.

What are Mindful Affirmations?

Mindful Affirmations ” are not just inspirational sayings. We use the term as thought provoking phrases that loosely derive from Mindfulness ideas of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, who founded the medical and meditative models of Mindfulness. He came up with Eight Stations of Mindful Meditation:

- Smile

- Breathe

- Arrive

- Attend

- Find the essence

- Slow down

- Listen

- See things with a new perspective

Mindful Affirmations incorporate one or more of these active stations into each passage in order to support the Mindful notion of keeping an “open mind,” where possibilities have no limits. They are not meditations as used by Dr Zinn and others. Mindful Affirmations take ordinary Affirmations like “Your self-confidence will carry you on,” and make them more reality based so the reader can gradually acknowledge and accept the truth about their life. An example of expanding the above Affirmation into a Mindful Affirmation would be “I barely thought of my own self-worth until I saw myself going backwards in life. Letting myself go and losing all I had gained made me feel stuck and dependent. I now see how harnessing my self-esteem can help me not only find my way but, carry me through life.”

This phraseology helps to evoke not only the reader’s subconscious mind, but keeps the reader focused on the key of Mindfulness, just being in the moment.

Pain is about growth and is inevitable. Unfortunately, too many of us have become addicted to suffering… but suffering is optional! Mindful Affirmations make our conscious and subconscious minds look at our pain and release our fears about the unknown. Our inner subconscious mind has the desire for change but doesn’t know just what to change or how to do it. Our outer conscious mind desires to be relaxed, in balance and accept our state of affairs. When working in concert our two minds remove expectations/accusations and allow us to gently examine our feelings, thoughts and behaviors about the past without dwelling or being judgmental.

When Mindful Affirmations are written in the first person they can help the reader not only empathize with the writer, but slowly begin to accept and validate their own pain, saying inside themselves, “I guess I am not alone.” Mindful Affirmations not only break down the reader’s self-imposed isolation but offer them options for change such as in the passage, “I now see that responding rather than reacting will build a healthy interpersonal world for myself.”

It has been my clinical experience that each time I ask a patient to read a Mindful Affirmation, they mention to me that they now see their old problem in a different way. One of the core values of Mindfulness is to be able to see yourself and the world around you with a “new set of eyes.”

The focus is on accepting, commitment and learning (refers to “ACT” therapy) a new way of living or looking at life. Mindful Affirmations help the reader’s mind stay engaged while supporting the surrender of old baggage and unfulfilled expectations.

Mindful Affirmations use positive assertions like “I feel happy,” but allow our present awareness to reinforce our declaration giving us clarity of thought to see our options. It is a coping strategy. For example, the statement “When I am stressed I make myself sit and take notice of my surroundings,” supports your inner desire to stay calm and centered rather than be overwhelmed and scattered.

The book takes Affirmations to the next level by first talking about how “I” (the reader) arrived at the state of not being able to take control, what resulted, and how “I” plan to take command of my life in the future.

Using these three components to the Affirmation not only supports the drive to do better, but plants the seed more firmly that “I” will make progress and “I” can learn from my past. Mindful Affirmations are cyclical in nature. Each time a negative feeling comes up the reader has a choice to make good or bad decisions. The truth is that we are more likely to accomplish what we set out to do, if we are keenly aware of how the past made us feel and what consequences may lie ahead.

Mindful Affirmations help you not only face reality, but look beyond it by challenging your old mental dialogue with a new perspective. Mindful Affirmations allow you to step back from life enough to examine regrets and embrace new options. Mindful Affirmations help you discover that who you really are is what keeps you alive, vital and present.

Speaking Spanish – How to Learn Spanish Even If You Think You Can’t

Speaking Spanish – How to Learn Spanish Even If You Think You Can’t

A friend of mine diligently studied Spanish for months before a trip to Mexico. But right after flying to Guadalajara, she went out for dinner and discovered that she couldn’t understand a word anyone said, nor could they follow her halting attempts at speaking Spanish.

All too often, when people go through an experience like this, they give up quickly. Possibly you can relate to this. Maybe you had some Spanish in high school and decided you didn’t have a knack for languages, perhaps you had an experience like my friend’s, or maybe you don’t think you could remember all that vocabulary and all those verb endings.

But no matter how poor you think you would be at learning to speak Spanish, the chances are excellent that you can do much better than you think. As an American living in Mexico, I have seen other Americans who don’t even try to learn Spanish, but I also have seen many people speaking Spanish surprisingly well not long after moving here. Sure, they do make errors but they can communicate, and the Mexican people are typically very gracious and patient when we foreigners try to speak their language.

Why Do People Think They Can’t Learn to Speak Spanish?

Often it does go back to bad experiences in high school or college. Academic courses are not really designed to get you speaking Spanish. They start you out with grammar and with learning to read and to write. Speaking is just a part of the curriculum, and with quite a few students in each class, there just isn’t much opportunity for practicing conversation. Also, even if speaking is emphasized, the environment tends to make many students self-conscious and timid. It’s nothing like chatting with the friendly people you might meet on a vacation trip.

But a vacation isn’t guaranteed to teach you Spanish. As my friend found, it can be overwhelming to listen to Spanish all around you. You may be lucky if you understand just a few words here and there. The idea that you can go to another country and just “pick up” the language is not very realistic unless you are under about 12 years old.

Another issue is that we often think we aren’t intelligent enough to do something like learn a new language. Or if we have any gray hairs, we may think we are too old. But research shows that motivation is way more important than age in learning Spanish.

What Works in Learning Spanish?

There are several ways you can develop a speaking ability in Spanish, and even basic skill at speaking Spanish will get you a long way in communicating. You could take an adult education course offered through a college where you live, but it may well have the same problems mentioned above: that it is going to focus on grammar and not provide enough speaking practice. Besides, it may not fit your schedule or budget, and you have to allow for time going to and from class.

Better choices exist now via the internet. There are many Spanish language computer programs. Some are downloadable, while others you would order for prompt delivery, often from well-known internet retailers like Amazon.com. There are also online Spanish classes. There are free websites to help you learn Spanish. If you have the time and money, there are immersion classes in Spanish in probably every Spanish-speaking country in the world. So while it can be quite a task to sort through these options, they do exist. Don’t give up on speaking Spanish… it can be so worthwhile, whatever your reasons for wanting to learn it!

Traditional Or European Kitchen Cabinets – Learn What You Need To Know Before Ordering Online

Traditional Or European Kitchen Cabinets – Learn What You Need To Know Before Ordering Online

Purchasing kitchen cabinets from one of those Big Box or Home Improvement stores can turn out to be huge mistake. You have no idea if the person assisting you in designing and ordering one of the largest purchases of your life has been working in the cabinet business for 20 years or 2 weeks. If you would like to take a chance with your money and your project timeline, then don’t bother reading on and just go for it. Lots of people do, and many of them are really sorry they jumped so quickly. Please read on.

FIGURING OUT WHAT STYLE CABINETS TO BUY ONLINE

There are two basic styles of cabinets available now, the traditional cabinet and the frameless European style cabinet. For people that would like a nice clean modern look, the European style is probably right for you. With no face frames on the cabinet boxes all you see are the doors and drawer fronts with no trim in between. Kitchencraft or Arch Bay by Kitchencraft is the most well known manufacturer of the more modern European style cabinets. Made in Canada.

For an older or historical style home, the traditional style cabinets are probably what you’re looking for. A face frame is attached around the entire front of the cabinet box, leaving a visible trim between the doors and drawer fronts. Kraftmaid cabinetry is the most well known company for producing the traditional style cabinets. Made in the USA. Norcraft, Mid Continent, Ultracraft and Somersby kitchen cabinets also have traditional styles and are manufactured in the USA.

Many accessories and trim items are available for both types of cabinets including, but not limited to crown molding, light rail molding, fillers, corbels, glass door inserts, glass shelves, and the list goes on and on. It can be quite the challenge to decide on everything you would like in your new kitchen.

Kitchen cabinets are basically all constructed the same way. They all start with a box, with or without a face frame, fixed shelving or adjustable, a door and possibly some drawer fronts. Ordering cool options for your kitchen is always an option, like pot and pan storage, rolling trays, full extension drawer runners, etc. Now you have a box with a shelf or two, possibly a roll out tray, doors and a couple drawers. So what’s the deal with the huge difference in price you ask? That is a good question.

Thickness and type of material used in the cabinet sides is one of the differences between cabinet manufacturers and options. Door profiles, wood species and color of the finish vary a little between companies. Not enough to create such a big difference in prices between certain kitchen cabinet companies. The finishing processes are all excellent, but the Canadian manufacturer Kitchencraft claims to use one finishing process that the USA’s EPA won’t allow here. Whether it make that much difference in the quality of the finish, I don’t know. Please don’t spend huge amounts of time researching all the finish specs from the big cabinet companies. Get some samples and choose what you like. Move on because there are plenty of other decisions you are going to have to make before you kitchen project is complete.

Plywood ends and all plywood construction are a couple construction options to consider. Some companies offer plywood ends as a standard construction method. Furniture board or high grade particle board is what most of us know the other construction material as. Furniture board is fine for cabinet ends as they are all going to be screwed together and to the walls. Some contractors prefer plywood ends in a very humid climate. That’s a personal choice that I’m not sure I agree with. Now when it comes to a sink base cabinet or vanity, I would probably order those cabinets with plywood ends just in case of a water leak under the sink. I think that plywood would dry out more consistently than furniture board. But again, the choice is up to you. Do a littler research on that and decide for yourself if it’s worth the extra cost.

A couple great things to look for as standard equipment or an option is full extension drawer runners, and easy closing drawer guides like the Blum Blumotion types. The full extension runners allow the drawers to be opened all the way so you can use the space in the back of the drawer normally not accessible with a standard drawer guides. The Blumotion drawer guides slow the drawer down as it is closing so they don’t slam shut damaging the drawer fronts over time. Nice and quiet too.

Specification books and color brochures are a must to have after you’ve decided on a kitchen cabinet manufacturer. This will help you decide on the gigantic amount of add on goodies that are available to you. If you already have an idea of what you need in your kitchen like storage for baking pans, spice racks, roll out pantries, you are ahead of the game. Take a walk around your current kitchen and think of all the things you don’t like about it and with it had, and make a list to help you design the layout of your new space.

The major wood species for kitchen cabinet are maple, cherry, oak, alder, hickory and pine. Probably the most popular being the maple and cherry as they have a nice tight consistent grain and take finish very well. Don’t forget that cherry cabinets will darken with age, so you might want to select a color that is a shade lighter than what you want to end up with years down the road. Ask your cabinet specialist more about the amount or darkening to expect over what period of time.

Thermo foil is another finishing process that most all of the major cabinet companies use. They place a thin sheet of material over usually a furniture board door or drawer front, heat it and vacuum it down to the surface. This method creates a very clean, smooth and durable finish on your cabinets. It is also less expensive than solid wood doors and drawer fronts. The only major drawback with thermo foil is colors. Usually the people that order this type of cabinet want a very consistent white or beige color throughout the kitchen. I’m sure in comes in more colors than that, but would you really want any of them? Take a look and see if this is something you would like.

With some of the cabinet companies running on 8 and 9 week lead times for delivery, you do not want any mistakes made by the person sending your order to the factory for production. If they make a mistake on your order, even the smallest thing like one letter or number on only one important cabinet and you’ll be waiting weeks and even months to install your new kitchen. Use a cabinet specialist from a reputable online cabinet distributor. They do this day in and day out. They have years and years of training in the cabinet industry. Don’t chance this huge project on a pimple faced kid and the DIY store that went to 2 week training course on how to design and sell cabinets. This is a huge investment for you so don’t make this mistake with your kitchen cabinet project. You will be so upset if this happens.

Stock up on brochures from your local cabinet stores. Figure out if you like traditional or European style cabinets. Pick a couple wood species that your really love. Look for your favorite colors, finishes and glazes. Check out the full extension runners and Blumotion drawer guides. Look at all the accessories in the brochures that you’re thinking about purchasing. Get really accurate measurements of your space and start making a list of the cabinets that you’ll need for your project. You may be able to get a list of the common cabinet heights and widths from them too. You may want to have them give you a quote on the project and create a list of cabinets for you as well. If you don’t buy from them, make sure the company you do buy from triple checks all the cabinet nomenclature before they order them for you. You may want to get another quote or two from a few smaller cabinet companies as well. This will give you some good comparables to work with.

Choosing a good reputable cabinet distributor online is important. Do your research on them and read the testimonials. Make sure they have excellent and knowledgeable cabinet specialists on the sales team, great customer service and prompt warranty follow up. Ask lots of questions and make sure they know what they’re talking about when it comes to your new kitchen cabinets. Fax them the list and go over every detail and every cabinet with them to make sure you didn’t forget and fillers, end panels, toe kick, etc. These things are very easy to forget if you don’t do this day in and day out like the other guys. But you’re going to be crazy mad if you don’t have everything you need when it comes time to install your kitchen.

Learn Oil Painting – Basics of Paint Selection

Learn Oil Painting – Basics of Paint Selection

When painting with oil paints, it is wise to learn the different aspects of oil based paints. Oil paints dry quite slowly and therefore it is very easy to correct errors, or change the direction of your painting.

The three types of oil paint finishes are Transparent, Semi-Opaque and Opaque.

Transparent paints are see through paints and are often used for rain, bursts of sunlight, mist, or anything else that requires a light, transparent appearance.

Opaque paints are not see through at all and are used when a more vibrant color and finish are desired. Most of the base elements of the painting will be painted with opaque paints.

Semi-Transparent paints are a cross between Transparent and Opaque Paints. Semi Transparent paint is normally used to tone down a color or for subtle highlights. The way in which you use these different paint finishes will change as your skill and experience improves.

It is very common to mix Linseed oil with your oil paints. Doing so makes the paint more manageable and helps to extend the color. When you mix the Linseed oil to your paint, your paint is then referred to as “long paint”. When paint is used directly out of the tube, it is referred to as “short paint”.

It is worth mentioning the board on which you will dispurse your paint from the tube is called the “palette”. If you are mixing in the Linseed oil to your paint, this also will be done on the pallete. The palette is also where you can mix various colors of oil paint to achieve desired textures and colors.

The canvas of course, is where you will paint your painting. The canvas needs to have a “base coat” of paint applied before you can start the painting. This cuts down on glare from the material that the canvas is made of. As stated earlier, oil based paint dries very slowly. This is why many artists choose to apply an acrylic paint as their base coat. Acrylic paint dries much faster. This is fine as one can then apply the oil paint over the basecoat of acrylic without any issues. Usually three to four light coats of a base acrylic paint will do the job. This also helps to add texture to your painting.

The base coat is applied with a large brush that is referred to as a “wash brush”. The most common colors used for the base coat are ochre, raw umber, burnt umber. Apply evenly in light coats and allow to thoroughly dry in between coats.

Always buy professional grade paints for your projects. I prefer the Windsor and Newton brand of paints. There are a couple of other respected brands on the market as well. You can find them under the Old Holland and Michael Harding brands. I purchase most of my supplies at Dick Blick and find that they always have the best selection of inventory available for my needs.

Of course if you are buying the best paints, then it only makes sense to apply them with top paint brushes. You will find additional painting tips at my website, including tips on selecting the proper brushes for your projects.

When I chose to learn oil painting, I added an entirely new dimension to my life. If you have some patience, and a willingness to learn, I am positive that you will enjoy painting as well. Painting is not just a hobby, it can be a major part of your life and who you are as a person.

Affirmation statements -we hear them spoken often by motivational speakers, authors, writers etc., but what can we personally do to harness the power of affirmations in our own lives?

Think about a time in your life when you desired to make a change – something major, like finding a new job, moving to a new city or home, or something less momentous like a New Year’s resolution to improve your overall health. Can you think of a past experience like that? Now, think about the tools that you used or steps that you took to help guide you through that transition and keep you focused on achieving your goals while making that change.

These tools in effect, involved you setting in motion a series of events to accomplish the goals you’d set out for yourself, and one of the easiest ways to achieve success is to create affirmations.

Affirmations are very easy to use and quite powerful once you get the hang of practicing this daily exercise. Affirmations keep you focused on what’s important to you and help you achieve positive transitions. Basically an affirmation is a declaration that something is already true and has come to fruition in your life in the present moment. You have to believe what you are looking to achieve or obtain has already arrived in order for ‘it’ to show up in your life.

If your desire is to create personal well-being, first choose a phrase that describes what you desire. For example, if you desire to adopt a healthier lifestyle, then your affirmation statement could say, “I feel good and look good when I live a healthy lifestyle.” Or “I enjoy the great feelings I get from exercising daily.” Short powerful statements are more focused and work much better to bring about results than long, drawn-out paragraphs.

There are some rules to follow when creating an affirmation that I’d like to share with you.

Rule # 1: The phrase must be in the present tense, such as “I feel good”, as opposed to “I will feel good” which implies that at some point in the future you ‘might’ achieve your goal. Remember to phrase your affirmation as if your desire.

Rule #2: The statement must always be written from a positive perspective, instead of a negative one. For example, you wouldn’t say “I don’t feel good when I am not healthy” as this places your health – which you are trying to change – in a negative context. Always phrase your desire/affirmation statement in a positive context and in the present tense.

Rule #3: Repeat often. After you create an affirmation, write it down on something that you can keep with you, like a notebook or card to put in your purse or wallet, or place it somewhere that you look at often throughout your day such as on your bathroom mirror or your desk at work. Make sure that you read your affirmation statements as many times during your day as possible.

Studies have shown that using the power of affirmations can lower stress and I have found this to be true in my own life. When I get clear about what I want in my life and focus on my desires with affirmations every day, I am more content and peaceful. What we focus on grows, so the more you focus your attention on your affirmations, the more likely you are to create positive changes in your life and achieve your dreams.

My favorite book on affirmations and the power of healing is Louise Hay’s, You Can Heal Your Life. In this fascinating book you can learn more about the healing power of affirmations and how you can harness them to improve your overall health and well-being. And frankly, who wouldn’t like to live a healthier, more serene life in these turbulent times?

Using the power behind affirmations can truly change your life for the better. Put this into practice this week by writing down three short affirmations about three areas you’d like to make positive changes in your life. Be sure to state your desires in the present tense and in a positive way. Practice repeating these statements as many times as you can for 7 days and see what wonderful changes reveal themselves in your life.

Why Network Marketing? If you’ve somehow stumbled across this site you’re probably wondering if network marketing is something you can achieve success at.

Maybe you don’t want to follow the 98% plan like the majority of Americans. What’s the 98% plan? Well 98% of Americans end up dead or dead broke by age 65 and only 2% retire wealthy. So why network marketing?

Well that’s simple. You see, in network marketing you’ll never get told what to do, what you do is up to you. You’ll be offered more help, more guidance, and will be surrounded by people that actually care about your success in life. You’ll no longer be an employee (just a number).

The Internet And Network Marketing

Network marketing has changed and because of the internet it’s a whole new ball game. The old concept of making a list of your friends, neighbors, and harassing anyone within 3 feet of you has completely changed.

In fact it has never been easier to succeed in network marketing thanks to the web. Normal people just like you are creating quiet fortunes from home without ever having to leave the house!

Recently chief economist Paul Zane Pilzer stated that there will be 10 million new millionaires created in the next 10 years and the majority of them will be created in the network marketing industry.

Still Wondering Why Network Marketing Is The Perfect Business?

You may have heard this story before, but over the summer of 1998 Donald Trump made an appearance on the Letterman show. David Letterman asked him what he would do if he lost everything and had to start over from scratch. Without hesitating, Trump said he would find a good network marketing company and get to work.

The audience started to shout and boo him. He looked out at the audience and his response was “That’s why I’m sitting up here and you are all sitting out there!”

This is why network marketing is the perfect business, it’s fun and it’s the easiest way for you to achieve financial freedom and free yourself from the rat race. Good luck with your new network marketing business, I know you can do it!

Broken heart, hurt and loneliness are three perfect ingredients, which, when mixed together, make our lives dull and miserable. These three things can easily take over our lives and once part of our lives we can see nothing but unhappiness. Very little do we know that we can become happy again and learn to appreciate the feeling of love again through love affirmations. A love affirmation is a simple statement that we continually say to ourselves, which, over time, can help to bring about permanent changes in our lives.

Love affirmations help us to rediscover the love we have lost. An affirmation is a thought that we have during the day which is directly linked to our sub-consciousness. These love affirmations guide our sub-consciousness into a certain direction which can either have positive or negative effective.

To bring about a change in our lives through love affirmation we first need to start thinking positively and wave a good-bye to all our negative thoughts which leads to a unhappy life in the first place. For example instead of ‘nobody loves me’ start thinking ‘everybody loves me’. The key behind reuniting with love is to start loving yourself in the first place and feel confident about you. Adopting a positive love affirmation about yourself such as ‘I was born out of love’ can be very helpful in helping you regain your self esteem after a breakup or a rough fight.

Secondly change your attitude towards others. Respect their feelings and think that everyone deserves love just like you do. Once you adopt this love affirmation, love will find you. You will no longer see life as miserable but will find it to be filled with love.

Wording used in love affirmation is of great significance. Only use words that are simple and can be easily accepted by your mind, only then will power of love affirmations work. Preferably try to use word ‘love’ when making use of a love affirmation. Something along the lines of ‘I am worth loving’ or ‘I will find my true love’ or ‘I am committed to loving …’ are all good examples of love affirmations.

Love affirmation can not only be used to find love for yourself but it is also about discovering God’s love. For example thinking ‘I will love others as extensions of my own Self, and of the love I feel from God.’ will draw you nearer to God and His universal love.

Love affirmation also helps you understand your companion and builds a strong bond between couples. Even to find romance you first need to find your inner-love which can only be achieved through love affirmation.

Love affirmation can also be used to draw ourselves closer towards nature. Learn to love nature and most importantly spend time with nature more often. Try thinking about good things such as ‘I love the smell of fresh flower’ or ‘I feel refreshed’.

To get used to love affirmation, note down any positive thought you have during the day maybe on a piece of card or whichever way is convenient to you. During initial stages of love affirmation technique we might get negative thoughts as well. Note these negative affirmations as well and at the end of each day try replacing them with something more fruitful thought. Review your affirmations twice a day to have a maximum effect of love affirmation. Initially it takes time to step out of a dark miserable world but once you succeed in taking a step nothing can stop you and with the help from repeated love affirmations you will ultimately stop at nothing but love.
