Cancer Victims May Be Qualified to Receive Compensation From the Government

If you have been diagnosed with cancer, or lost a loved one to cancer, are you aware that there are funds available from the government to compensate you? The program, established in 1990, is called the Radiation Exposure Compensation Program, and provides monetary compensation to individuals who contracted certain cancers and other serious diseases following their exposure to radiation released during above-ground atmospheric nuclear weapons tests or, following their occupational exposure to radiation while employed in the uranium industry during the build-up to the Cold War.

Downwinders, or those persons who lived in certain areas around the test sites, are entitled to received $50,000. To qualify as a Downwinder, the claimant must have lived or worked in certain counties in Utah, Nevada, and Arizona for a period of at least two years during the period beginning on January 21, 1951, and ending on October 31, 1958, or, for the period beginning on June 30, 1962, and ending on July 31, 1962.

The counties covered in the State of Utah are Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane, Millard, Piute, San Juan, Sevier, Washington, and Wayne; in the State of Nevada, the counties of Eureka, Lander, Lincoln, Nye, White Pine, and that portion of Clark County that consists of townships 13 through 16 at ranges 63 through 71 (which does not include Las Vegas or any of the surrounding suburbs); and in the State of Arizona, the counties of Apache, Coconino, Gila, Navajo, Yavapai, and that part of Arizona that is north of the Grand Canyon in Mohave County.

The Downwinder must have also contracted one of the following specified diseases: leukemia (other than chronic lymphocytic leukemia), multiple myeloma, lymphomas (other than Hodgkin’s disease), and primary cancer of the thyroid, male or female breast, esophagus, stomach, pharynx, small intestine, pancreas, bile ducts, gall bladder, salivary gland, urinary bladder, brain, colon, ovary, or liver (except if cirrhosis or hepatitis B is indicated), or lung.

A Downwinder can file a claim on his or her own behalf, or a family member can file on behalf of a deceased family member if he or she would have qualified of living. There are several categories of claimants, other than a self-filer:

1. Spouse: A spouse can file on behalf of a deceased spouse, even if the living spouse has since remarried. To file on a spouse, you must have been married to him or her for at least one year prior to their death.

2. Parent: A child can file on behalf of a deceased parent if the there is no spouse living that would otherwise qualify to file a claim. You must share the compensation with an living sisters or brothers that you may have, including step-siblings who lived in the same household as the deceased parent.

3. Child: A parent can file on behalf of a deceased child. If both parents of the child are still living, they are entitled to share the compensation equally.

4. Grandparent: A grandchild can file on behalf of a deceased grandparent, but only if there is no living spouse, and no living children of the grandparent. All grandchildren share the compensation equally. A Grandparent may also file on behalf of a deceased grandchild if there is no parent living that is qualified to file a claim.

Onsite Participants are those persons who participated in above-ground nuclear testing or who worked at one of the test sites in Nevada, the Pacific, Trinity or South Atlantic. Those Participants are entitled to receive $75,000 if, after onsite participation, the participant contracted one of the following specified diseases: leukemia (other than chronic lymphocytic leukemia), lung cancer, multiple myeloma, lymphomas (other than Hodgkin’s disease), and primary cancer of the thyroid, male or female breast, esophagus, stomach, pharynx, small intestine, pancreas, bile ducts, gall bladder, salivary gland, urinary bladder, brain, colon, ovary, or liver (except if cirrhosis or hepatitis B is indicated), or lung.

Uranium Workers are entitled to received $100,000. There are three categories of uranium workers, including miners millers, and ore transporters.

1. Uranium Miners. Eligible individuals exposed to 40 or more working level months of radiation, or worked for at least one year in uranium mines located in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Wyoming, South Dakota, Washington, Utah, Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon, and Texas at any time during the period beginning on January 1, 1942, and ending on December 31, 1971. Prosperity’s 12 Affirmations are 12 powerful affirmations of prosperity and well-being drawn from the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) and the book Prosperity’s 10 Commandments by Georgiana Tree West. The 11th and 12th affrimations are inspired by Jesus’ 2 great commandments found in Matthew 22:37-39. Prosperity’s first 4 affirmations help to internalize ideas that contribute to establishing a prospering relationship with the Fundamental Creative Energy of the Universe – God. In this article we will look at four affirmations, which will help you internalize ideas that aid in creating prospering relationships with other people. As you use these affirmations to create your abundant life, you will begin to establish habits of language and action that will enable you to create mutually prospering relationships with other people. Affirm these affirmations daily and you make these powerful prosperity principles a basic part of your life experience.

Four Affirmations for Prospering Relationships with Others

“I maintain my highest integrity when connecting with God and interacting with God’s agents of my wealth”. Perhaps this affirmation should be “I am faithful to God and respectful of people”. The key to success with this affirmation is to stay conscious of our relationship to God, our only Source of supply. Then we will remember that others are also connected to the God-Source. In this consciousness we create the possibility for everyone with whom we interact to bless us in some way. However, we must be open and receptive to the blessing. When we maintain our integrity and treat people with respect, we empower them and they are likely to empower us, quite possibly in unexpected ways.

“I keep my wealth circulating and creating blessings for others and for me”. The Commandment upon which this affirmation is based is “Thou Shalt Not Murder”. Habitual thoughts of poverty and limitation are murderers of prosperity. We affirm this affirmation in language and in action through our generosity, tithing and giving. In using this affirmation we are creating our experience of the unimpeded circulation of wealth and abundance.

“I only use my wealth for creative, uplifting, enlightening, joyful and life affirming purposes”. This affirmation helps us to keep our motives and uses for money pure and unadulterated. We remind ourselves that money is Love in action and we focus on the positive uses of our money as a pure expression of love. With this affirmation we exercise the power of intention. When we create a field of clear intention we take advantage of the natural processes of creation to yield the object or service for which we expended a portion of our wealth but we have the added benefit of spiritual and emotional satisfaction because others are blessed and benefited by our intentions and actions.

“I always give generous and fair compensation for value received”. This affirmation helps us practice the Law of Compensation which reminds us that when we are attempting to get something for nothing, we are actually trying to steal. However, when we are willing to give fair compensation for everything we receive, we stay in the continuous flow of prosperity.

Next Steps Take action by repeating these affirmations until they feel natural to you. You may want to craft your own version of these affirmations to really make them yours. The time and energy you invest in working with the affirmations will pay large dividends in your experience of prosperity and abundance.

One of the things you can do to accelerate your progress is to engage in conversations based on these four affirmations with family, friends and acquaintances. I invite you to visit Prosperity’s 12 Affirmations Blog, http://www.prosperingtimes.com/blog and if you wish to powerfully accelerate the potency of this affirmative process, accept our invitation to subscribe to the complimentary e-course “Introduction to Prosperity’s 12 Affirmations at http://www.prosperingtimes.com/Intro2P12Registration.html

Affirmations can be used to improve practically any area of your life. It does not matter if the situation is a simple one or if it is absolutely critical, affirmations can be of great use. However many people who have used affirmations do not get the full benefit from them and even go as far as to claim they do not work. This is simply because they have not learned how powerful affirmations really are, how to use them to their fullest and why creating your own affirmations is so important.

What are affirmations used for?

Affirmations can be used in many areas of your life, for instance if you are going to an interview and you are feeling nervous you can use an affirmation like “I can do this, I will be a hit, I am a winner or I will succeed” to help you calm down and boost your moral and confidence. Affirmations can also be used to change your beliefs about something. Lets say you have the belief that there are no good men around anymore, you could use an affirmation like “I am open to the idea that there is a good man out there for me.” This will help you to change your belief about men. There are countless ways for you to use affirmations in your life.

Why write your own affirmations?

There are literally thousands of websites online offering you lists of affirmations that are supposed to change your life and although the affirmations are often powerful in of themselves, they often do not help the user for one simple reason. They are not specific to the users situation and beliefs. Here’s an example, suppose you are not happy about your body any you want to change the way you think about your body. So you choose an affirmation from a pre-written list that says, “I am beautiful and I love my body.”

Although this may be a good affirmation it is likely to be useless for anyone who is truly unhappy with his or her body. This is because if you have a negative belief and you try to change it by stating the direct opposite the first thing your mind will do is resist the positive statement as it is simply to big a jump from one end of the spectrum to the other. This is why it is so important to learn how to write affirmations that are specific and fully directed towards your needs.

Instead of trying to convince your mind of a fact that is directly opposite to what you believe, instead you would write an affirmation that is hopeful, positive and opens your mind to accepting a new belief. The affirmation could be something like, “I am making healthy choices to improve my body” or “little by little I am changing the way I look” or “I am open to the idea of reaching my perfect weight.”

When you soften your affirmations you receive less resistance and therefore stand a much greater chance of actually changing your beliefs and improving the negative self-talk. Then as your self-image improves you can make your affirmations even more powerful. The most important thing to remember when using affirmations is to focus on how the affirmation you are using makes you feel. If when you state the affirmation you feel tension or resistance to the words then the affirmation is too far away from your present belief and needs to be softened. Also when you do this you should include hopeful words and statements like “I intent to, I am moving towards, I am reaching for, and I am open to.”

Following these simple tips will help you to write powerful focused affirmations that will change your life and you will also be more in-tune with your feelings which will in turn help you to recognize when an affirmation is right for you and when it is not.

Do you have questions on affirmations? Do you wonder what they are and how to use them? Are you stumped when it comes to writing affirmations of your own? If any of the above rings true for you this series on affirmations will be very useful for you.

I have received more than a few inquiries regarding affirmations with particular requests for sample affirmations on a variety of different subject matter. Affirmations are really any thought that you think or say out-loud or to yourself all of the time.

For our intent and purposes we will refer to affirmations as being statements said with intention. You are no longer letting your mind wonder away with whatever gibberish that may have previously been common place. You are taking control of your thoughts; you are giving them your attention for your desires.

Any positive thing you say to yourself is good for your overall well-being and state of mind. However, I do believe that you’ll find your affirmations more useful if you tailor them specifically to you and your situation much like a tailor would fit you for a custom fit jacket.

Use whatever affirmations below that you like and that feel right with you. Then, once you’re comfortable, start to write some of your own that are specific to you and your ideal state.

Emotions Affect Affirmations

Remember that your affirmations are going to be much more affective that much faster if you can invoke your emotions while saying them. Your thoughts are energy and your emotions put those thoughts into motion.

You stir up a much stronger emotional response when you raise your voice and vary your inflection oppose to when you just read something off in a monotone voice.

Your emotions will be stronger still if you give your attention to the words as you say them instead of uttering the words with your mouth while your mind is wondering off on anything other than the task at hand.

Thoughts are energy and the emotions you put behind your thoughts set your life in motion. If you constantly are affirming that money is hard to come by, then don’t be surprised if you receive small raises from your employer, barely meet your social obligations, and have trouble accumulating wealth.

When did Negative Thinking Start

You’ve likely been thinking this way for a long time and if it were working for you I doubt that you’d be here, reading this article. Thinking in a way that doesn’t suite you was most likely thrust upon you as a young child by people who had learned to think and act the way they did from the people that surrounded them as a child.

Now here you sit with so much knowledge literally at your fingertips and you realize that you have the power to change your experience. It may seem too easy but I say… it’s just as easy as it should be.

Mirror Affirmations

If you don’t spend much of any time looking into your own eyes I can’t recommend doing it enough. I’ve done this before I even fully understood the significance or the impact of it. For me it feels like reconnecting to something within myself, like I was starring into something that knew and understood my many anguishes. Which is true, no one understands me and my experiences the way I do.

Looking into my own eyes gives me great comfort and peace and brings me back to the present moment when I have slipped off into worry about the future or sadness about the past. I am comforted and soothed with a calm that words just don’t seem to measure properly.

Another way to look at this is to realize that some of the most powerful and emotionally striking messages we’ve received have been from others who looked us directly in the eye.

You taking the time to look into your own eyes when you say something solidifies the importance and the power of your own message.

But seriously, don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself. Look into your eyes and just say hello, say I love you, or any one of the many affirmations listed below.

If you’re scoffing at this idea remember how many times you’ve stood in front of the mirror getting ready or passed by your reflection and let out a deep and heavy-hearted sigh at some aspect of your body that just measure up to how you’d like it to be.

Recall the countless times you condemned yourself for not being better at something or for not doing more in a day.

The only difference here is that instead of affirming something negative about yourself you are affirming something positive about yourself.

You can change your thinking and thereby your experience by taking control of your thoughts. You must realize that you have a say in what plays in your mind. You do not have to think thoughts that don’t suite you.

As Wayne Dyer says, “Change your thoughts and you will change your life.”

Writing Your Affirmations

When you write out affirmations of your own then do so describing your ideal situations and be specific, be crystal clear on exactly what you would like to experience. Write each one 10 times to really get them imprinted on your mind.

Relationship Affirmations

Below are affirmations concerning relationships. If you are not presently in a relationship the idea here is to be thinking only of the ideal relationship you desire. If you continually think of your relationship disasters then you will go on to have similar experiences as you try to move your life forward.

If you are in a relationship and wish to tailor these affirmations, then you would say something like, “Joan and I are very patient with each other.”

* My partner and I are very patient with each other.

* My partner and I are very understanding of each other.

* My partner and I hug, touch, and kiss each other all the time.

* My partner and I have a wonderful sex life.

* My partner and I are very affectionate with each other.

* My partner and I have great respect for each other.

* My partner and I are very considerate of each other.

* My partner and I genuinely enjoy each others company.

* My partner and I love to cook with each other.

* My partner and I laugh together all the time.

* My partner and I have a wonderful friendship.

* My partner and I have lives outside of our relationship.

* My partner is comfortable within his own skin.

* My partner cares about my feelings.

* My partner is honest even when it’s not easy.

* My partner has great integrity.

* My partner is a great kisser.

* My partner takes excellent care of his physical, mental, and spiritual health.

* My partner has goals and takes action to move himself towards them.

* My partner will try most anything at least once.

* My partner treats others with respect and appreciation.

* My partner appreciates affection.

* My partner is a little goofy and silly at times.

* My partner makes me laugh.

* My partner laughs more than he scowls.

* My partner loves the time he spends with family and friends.

* My partner enjoys a bit of travel.

What’s Next

The positive talk is great in helping you feel better and is instrumental in bringing better experiences into your life. But you’re not likely to find your ideal match sitting on your couch when you return from the bathroom during a commercial break of your favorite sit-com. You must give your words action.

You must go places, you must do things, and you must interact with the world. For example, if you’ve always wanted to learn how to khaki then take a community course with a friend, you never know who will be doing the same.

If you like to read, do so in a public place. Simply go to a coffee shop for a while, have some tea, and read for an hour or so. Join a club and become activity in the things that interest you. You are surrounding yourself with like minded people, and you are further allowing the universe to do its job.

If you want someone to cuddle you on those chili evenings you have to put yourself out into the world.

How to Use These Affirmations

Set aside a few minutes each day, preferably first thing in the morning or right before bed when your subconscious mind seems most open. Invoke your emotions, sit in front of the mirror, look into those beautiful eyes of yours and proclaim your affirmation. Get excited about the new life you are beginning, think about the new possibilities and adventures.

Give yourself praise for being brave and busting out of an old and familiar way that was getting you nowhere.

The more persistent you are with an affirmation the more it becomes the natural nature of your thoughts. You will be surprised and delighted at how differently you feel after only a short time of affirming your best life.

I hope you were able to find some relationship affirmations that work for you. If you have a relationship affirmation you’d like to share, a constructive comment to leave, or a question of your own please contact me at http://www.kimchelltalk.com.

Most Sincerely,

Life is a journey… not a destination point. We want to help you dance along your course as if no one is watching you, sing as if no one can hear you, and enjoy the many pleasures of life. So we wish you many happy trails.

The New Age Thinking regarding the use of affirmations can be somewhat frivolous. The idea that you can simply think about or affirm what you want and then get it is decidedly absurd. Yet, there is no doubt that thinking is a formative force in the materialization and fabrication of our world view and the conditioned circumstances in which we exist. How we view the world, and ourselves, as we are in and of the world, determines how we act which in turn results in effects. Our current situation–all the conditions of our present life and the various contexts in which we find ourselves, is a direct result of our past, specifically how we have used language in describing ourselves, our capacities, abilities and goals all of which is a precursor for behavior which, again, is causative meaning it brings about effects.

Language is not only our tool for communication. It is also our tool for thought. We think in words as well as mental pictures. But, language is a rather crude instrument. In English, with a mere 26 letters, we codify and represent all our experience…and communicate that experience, as best we can, with language. How can 26 letters encompass not just decades but ages upon ages of experience?

Language is tricky…it’s not always easy to understand the true meaning of a word or phrase. For example “love” has many different shades of meaning. When we say we love that new restaurant down the street, is that the same as when we say we love our mother? And when we are told that we should love ourselves, what kind of love do we apply? The kind of love we have towards our pet? Our sibling? One of the most common New Age Affirmations is something along the lines of “I love myself.” What does that mean? Really? Do we love ourselves the way we love our spouse? The way we love our neighbor? We don’t do those very well, so how could we possible love ourselves any better?

Because thought, which uses language, is a formative force. Affirmations are important. What we say to ourselves, and how we say it, does have an impact upon our mind, our body and our behavior…which, being causative, brings about effects. It behooves us to consider the positive and accurate use of affirmations as part of mental health hygiene. Just as you brush your teeth twice a day, so taking a few minutes to use language and thought in such a purposeful way that the mind is imprinted with positive impressions, is healthy. And, just as toothbrushes come in different styles and choosing one that works well is a consideration, so too designing an effective and accurate affirmation takes some meditation.

There are some basic guidelines to the proper use of affirmations: relatively short, first person singular, realistic, and yet not necessarily a present reality, vividness and kinaesthetic intensity, which is feeling. An affirmation is generally no longer than a few sentences and mostly just one simple sentence. The most common beginning of the sentence is “I am” and this is actually a very good affirmation to start with. After you brush your teeth, look in the mirror and say to yourself “I am.” After you’ve done that for a couple of months consistently, you can add on to it. For example, “I Am Healthy.” Of course, exactly what “healthy” consists of is not detailed, nor should it be. The word “healthy” is associated with dozens, if not hundreds, of other words, phrases, images and feelings. It’s those associations that gives that word its meanings. As you say “I am healthy” the subconscious mind automatically conjures images of what that means. As you repeat that affirmation as if it is a mantra, the images and feelings become intensified. But, you ask, what if I am not healthy, as many people in fact are not. You can still affirm this statement. It is not a hope or a want, it can be a statement of fact…even though it may currently be a lie.

Many of the beliefs and world views we hold today were built up through repetitive use of affirmations…simple sentences…which were, at the time, untruths. But, having repeated them so often, in first person singular, with vividness and feeling, these simple statements which were not at the time realities, became so. For example, a child growing up and learning language might imitate their parent who might often say “I’m such a klutz.” The child begins to imitatively repeat this affirmation and, although not a reality at the time, can easily become one.

To affirm something in the present which is not currently a reality is not a lie. It is simply a conflict. The subjective reality of the affirmative statement, coupled with vividness and feeling, is in conflict with the objective reality of consensual agreement. As the new affirmative statements are repeated the conflict increases. During this period of conflict there may be very strong thoughts attempting to convince one that the objective consensual reality is “the truth.” By continuing on with daily affirmative statements the creative subconscious mind begins to work towards conflict resolution. One of the two “realities” must be dissolved. There is tremendous force and momentum behind the objective consensual reality. Yet with simple persistence, the new subjective affirmative reality which was in conflict with the objective consensual reality begins to take dominance. The objective consensual reality’s basis, which is nothing other than established internal, subjective, affirmative statements becomes less rigid…it begins to crack. It becomes subordinate, and diminishes, and eventually dissolves away. Objective indications of the new affirmative position begins to be noticed in the world of consensual agreement…a new personal reality begins to emerge which is also substantiated by growing objective consensual agreements.

So, you may currently be very unhealthy. That does not matter. You can still affirm “I Am Healthy.” Be warned however, that as the weeks and months pass, as the conflict between the objective consensual reality and the newly forming subjective affirmative statements increases, there may be tendencies to prove to yourself that you are unhealthy. These tendencies need not be acted upon and, like storm moving through the region, they too pass; and then you may find yourself engaging in behaviors which are more aligned with the newly forming subjective reality of being healthy. What these new behaviors are will vary from individual to individual. There is no prescription as to diet, exercise, etc. The behaviors arise from the subconscious mind which is now accepting the newly forming reality. Although some may argue that you must affirm specifics, this writer believes the more generic, the greater the chance of allowing the creative subconscious mind to organize and formulate the necessary components of that reality without undue influence from the conditioned conscious mind.

There are a number of simple, generic affirmations that can be practiced. For example, “I am competent,” “I am efficient,” I am relaxed,” are some very simple affirmative statements that if practiced regularly can impact the subconscious mind in such a way as to bring about behaviors that are in alignment with that affirmation. Here is a longer affirmation that can be useful to repeat upon awakening in the morning and upon retiring in the evening: “I am a unique person, wonderful in many ways. I am gifted with the freedom to make choices and the means to act. I live in a world of possibilities and respond with intelligence. I am alert to what is happening around me. I can communicate. I am able to reason and I can learn. I will often remember…I am a unique person, wonderful in many ways.”

Few would argue the formative power of thought. Every single tool in our culture, from a simple hammer to space shuttles was first a thought in the mind. And clearly language plays a critically important role in thinking. Sometimes crafting an appropriate and accurate affirmative statement requires some assistance by a psychological wordsmither. Expected Family Contribution – How Much Student Financial Aid Are You Eligible To Receive?

Expected Family Contribution – How Much Student Financial Aid Are You Eligible To Receive?

Just how much college financial aid will you be eligible to receive? In order to make that determination you will need to calculate your Expected Family Contribution or EFC. The lower your estimated EFC, the more financial aid you’re eligible to receive.

Expected Family Contribution plays a major role in the college financial aid award process. In the case of federal aid, your EFC is determined from the FAFSA application. It’s very important to learn about the FAFSA form, specifically the questions asked, because errors made while completing the form can negatively impact your EFC. It’s not just the student’s financial situation that affects EFC. The parent’s and student’s income and assets impact the EFC.

In addition to income and assets related questions, you will answer questions on the FAFSA related to the number of children in the family who are in college and family size. If a family has three kids in college, then the parents will have a third of the parent contribution as the same family with one child in college. The EFC calculation, determined by the federal government, is a complex formula that:

takes into consideration the custodial family’s size

provides an income protection for basic living expenses

takes into account the amount of liquid savings available from the student and parent, (hint: students’ savings have a dollar for dollar greater impact on the EFC than do parents’), and

requests a disclosure of business and investment income.

The EFC formula does not consider the financial strength of the non-custodial parent, home equity, accounts protected for retirement like IRAs, and small business value . Once the federal EFC is calculated, the financial aid office will determine your or your students’ need.

The calculations are not yet over! Another simpler formula is now applied. Subtract your Expected Family Contribution from cost of attendance to get your federally calculated need. In cases where the EFC is greater than the cost of attendance, the college financial aid applicant will be considered a “no-need” student and will only be eligible for non-need based financial aid.

Some find this EFC business to be downright confusing. If you’re not a little confused already, then perhaps this will do the trick! Many institutions, mainly four-year private colleges, employ their own EFC calculation, typically referred to as Institutional methodology. The College Board provides most commonly used institutional application — the CSS profile. The CSS profile, unlike the FAFSA, has a cost associated with the application. While colleges use your Federal EFC determined from the FAFSA to calculate federal aid eligibility for federal loans, grants, and work-study, they apply their own EFC number to calculate fund eligibility.

Institutions with sizeable endowments, like private universities, may use their own methodology to determine what type of students they wish to recruit and retain with the help of their own funds. But federal student financial aid eligibility must always be determined by federal methodology, a fact which must be disclosed on your financial aid award letter. In further contrast to the FAFSA form, institutional EFC forms can and often do ask more pointed financial questions than the FAFSA application. For instance, non-custodial parents and their spouses must disclose their income and assets. Home equity from both parents is also used in the calculation.

Fortunately, the CSS profile and similar student aid applications ask you to disclose your expenses rather than relying upon an income protection allowance used in the federal EFC calculation. This enables students and families to disclose higher than average household expenses. If your family has experienced financial circumstances or hardships that are not reflected on the FAFSA and CSS profile, then it’s possible to approach the financial aid office for revisions to the EFC.

Positive Affirmations, how do they work? What changes can I expect?

Affirmations are one of the tools you can use to radically change your life. There is nothing new age, mystic, trendy or fashionable about them. Affirmation is part of an ancient ‘ Secret’, re-discovered and brought back to the limelight by TV. film and press, transforming with it several people into very wealthy gurus.

Affirmations have been around since man found the use of language and there is no secret ritual to use them.

You can basically have anything you want! This tool, if used correctly, will help you change, grow, and heal yourself.

I want to introduce you to the basics of positive affirmation and positive thinking. Later on you may want to surf the web and find out more about this fascinating subject.

When you start the affirmations, give yourself at least a thirty day tryout period. Depending on the seriousness of the problem you may need more time and more affirmations to achieve your goals. Talk to your family and friends about your resolution to change and ask them for their support. If it is a radical change you are envisioning a life-coach will be very useful suggesting the best approach to use and to keep you motivated. This is a big step. Opening up to relatives and friends show your commitment to change and solidify your intentions.

Don’t get discouraged, impatient or put off if nothing happens in a week or two. Just remember that you didn’t become this way overnight.

Affirmations can and will transform your life patterns and perception.

Affirmations support your positive thinking and together they form a very powerful and effective tool. They function as ‘key words’ of positive messages ‘dictated’ directly to the self. You consciously connect and direct your positive thinking to areas of your life that you want to change or heal. It works as a reminder to the self, keeping positive messages at the forefront of consciousness.

The benefits of affirmations are medically well established and really work.

On the other hand negative thoughts are just as powerful. So be aware of your negative thoughts as they are in essence self-destructive ‘key words:’ psychological mechanisms that make your life rotten.

First,  let’s check how aware you are of your thoughts.

Do you regularly have more positive or more negative thoughts running through you mind?

Only you can honestly answer that. So get ready.

If your subconscious is throwing out lots of negative thoughts then you must do some ‘brain-cleaning’ before moving into the desired new positive affirmation mode.

This may be very familiar to you, as your mind swirls with thoughts like: “I don’t like this, I like that, I feel great,  I hate him/her, I am afraid of, I don’t want them to see me like this, I am not sure about that, I feel rotten”.

Your mind incessantly interprets your experiences as an internal dialogue. These thoughts are generated on a deep level by your beliefs which were formed and accumulated from the time you were born.

We can’t control most exterior events of our lives but we do control how we interpret and react to them.

We create our own reality.

When we change our interpretation a change takes place in our reality.

So become aware of your thoughts. If you change your thinking, big changes will happen in your life.

Take a minute to think about why you are reacting to something or someone.

Get in touch with yourself. Accept the fact that these thoughts may have helped you in the past but they are out of place now that you have chosen to accept only positive thoughts and positive living.

While doing the new affirmations your mind will let go of the negative messages even if you are not aware if it.

Watch out also for resistance within yourself. With certain affirmations you may question, “What in the heck” – “are you kidding?”

It is ok, it is an old habit that is about to be changed. You grew up and had these thoughts for almost all of your life. Now it is time to form a new habit and you need lots of practice.

Let’s get started.

What would you like your life to be?

Think about it and write it down.

Fulfillment with your job, a happy family, better health, financial security?

Don’t hold back, go for it.

For the beginners the easiest way is to choose and write down two or three things you want changed.

For example, if you feel unloved and financially strapped, one of your affirmations could be: ” I am now ready to receive more love and wealth” and you may add  ”from the vast supply of the universe”.

If you also wrote down ‘low self-esteem’  the affirmation could be: “I am an awesome man/woman and I feel good about myself”.

Be creative, upfront and fearless. You are making a statement to yourself of your intentions.

Here are a few simple guidelines:

1- Present tense. Start all your affirmations in the present tense and have them already accomplished. You are telling your conscious mind that the affirmative action is taking place NOW and it is final. I AM HAPPY,  I CHOOSE JOY,  I HAVE CONFIDENCE. It is stronger and much more powerful than, I will be happy, or I am becoming happy, and so on.

2- How to phrase your affirmations. You can copy from an extensive list you’ll find on the Internet, use the examples below or simply write it down in your own words. Do it as plainly or as poetically as you speak. ” I am energetic and full of enthusiasm. I am safe, I am a prosperous man/woman. I attract positive people, I release my anger.” Make copies of it and leave it around the house, car and your office desk. The more you are reminded of the positive affirmations the more your mind will accept the new concept you are bringing forth. You will create a new positive reality and the universal energy will do the rest to connect this good energy to other positive energies.

3- Positive means Positive. Your subconscious usually focuses on the verb and relates it to past experiences. If you have fears, phobias or whatever, be careful with your choice of words. If you are afraid and say I am not SCARED, it will register I AM SCARED. The NOT was assimilated and ignored by your mind. Say instead I AM COURAGEOUS or I AM FEARLESS. Don’t use affirmations that have a negative attachment. You can comfortably use I ACCEPT, I CHOOSE, I DESERVE, I AM.  I developed one affirmation to counteract the negative thought that eventually peeks through, so I suggest you add it to the batch,  ”I ACCEPT ONLY THE GOOD AND THE POSITIVE.”

Starting as you wake up, say the affirmations out loud or in your head five times. Repeat the same process three to four more times during the day, the last one just before going to bed.

I suggest you end the affirmation session with a thank you  note. Gratitude will reinforce and validate the affirmations. Thank God, Jesus, a Spirit, the Force, the Universe or whatever you believe and feel comfortable with.

Visualize your affirmations with feelings and emotion. See yourself exactly as you are stating.  It will add an extra psychological dimension and have a much deeper impact on your mind. Using this method of visualization early in the morning and at night will make your affirmations much more successful.

You can use affirmations to help build self-confidence, self-esteem, self-improvement and personal growth. It can also help conquer your fears and anger management. Affirmations have been successfully used to relieve anxiety and depression and are an excellent tool for weight control.

If you check the web under Positive Affirmations you’ll find a multitude of books and affirmations to help you.

Here are a few examples of affirmations by topics:

Where to Receive an Education For Interior Designers

Interior design is an extremely important element of decorating any home. Those with an eye for style and a good use of space can often help people to make their home look interesting and inviting. When considering a career as an interior designer, there are several different schools which offer good degree programs in the field.

The Art Institutes offer over 45 campuses across the United States, along with the opportunity for online education at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh-Online. Their Bachelor’s Degree program helps students to become skilled in the use of technical problems in their field. They will learn the most important elements of interior design, like perspective and proportion to architecture and renovation. Graduates will be prepared to land entry-level positions in their field, such as space planner and interior designer or decorator.

Located in San Francisco, CA, the Academy of Art University offers an all encompassing program. They teach all necessary aspects of the field, like interior architecture, residential and commercial design, furniture design, color and lighting, and the history of interior design. Undergraduate and graduate programs alike are offered both on campus and online. Many of the professors at the Academy of Art University are professionals in their field, offering practical experience to students. Graduates from the programs have the opportunity to get hired at top name companies like Architecture International, Crate & Barrel, Architecture Planning Interiors, and Masco Contractor Services.

One of the largest interior design programs in the country can be found at the Design Institute of San Diego. When entering into this program, students will immediately become immersed in courses designed towards their field so that they can have four full years of practical experience. The interior design program helps students to create a strong base knowledge in the principles of design, drawing, and color. Students will learn to think critically about interior design issues and use creative expression in a practical and lucrative manner.

In Denver, CO, the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design offers both on-campus and online educational opportunities. They have a year-round trimester schedule, giving students the opportunity to complete their degree within three years. Though each semester does have a full schedule of classes available, many students find that there is more individualized attention in the summer classes, allowing them to learn more easily. The Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design even offers savings for students studying full time on the trimester schedule. The interior design program will help students to develop the skills to become experts in their field.

Interior designers can be an integral part of building a new home, or just remodeling an old one. Anyone hiring a professional will want them to have expert knowledge in their field. Getting a degree in interior design is important for anyone aspiring to become an interior designer.

I’ve been a spiritual seeker for many years now and I’ve always been interested in reading books about spirituality, self-improvement, healing and learning as much as I could for quite some time. I feel like I’ve been blessed by aligning myself with some of the best spiritual teachers through workshops and individual counseling sessions. I’ve had to overcome a lot of obstacles in my life, due to family issues, and I needed a lot of guidance.

One of my mentors was a counselor in Houston, Texas. I spent almost ten years working with this woman who whole-heartedly believed in the power of affirmations. It was sort of like going to confession in the Catholic Church. We would have our session where we would talk about issues, and then I would be assigned my so called homework. Instead of ten “Hail Mary’s” and five “Our Father’s”, it would be to write this affirmation 25 times: “I begin to bless everything that comes into my life as good, good, good.” Then I would write this affirmation in first person with “I”, second person: “You begin”, and third person: “Laureen, begins to.” The reasoning is that yes, I need to affirm myself. When writing in second person, it’s as if someone that I trust is talking right to me. In third person, it’s as if it were written, and already true.

Over the course of 10 years, I have written thousands of affirmations. I’ve written affirmations of healing from past childhood traumas, healing of relationships, healing from a divorce and healing from career changes. I was basically reprogramming my conscious and subconscious negative thoughts into positive “affirming” thoughts. Instead of believing in a “negative belief” that no longer works for me, I worked on accepting and affirming the “positive” experiences from the situation.

In the beginning, I would complain that my hands would get tired from all the writing, but the repetition imprints the affirmation into the subconscious mind. Also, the more times you write an affirmation, the more emotionally involved you get. How can you write “I am healthy in mind, body and spirit” dozens of times, without believing it? Writing, helps you believe it, feel it, and reprogram your mind.

I’ve written affirmations down in journals and post-it-notes around the house. I’ve typed in affirmations on my computer and printed some of them in large type and pasted it to my wall, such as: “The more money I spend, the more money I receive from the Universe”. I tend to like this one a lot! I’ve even taped myself speaking affirmations, so I can listen at home, while I’m doing yoga. I find there isn’t such a thing as too much. We spend so much of our lives in negative surroundings, whether that be at work, or at home, with our family, friends or even watching TV.

When I was in music school, I was a vocal performance major. I use to hear all the time from various students (some instrumentalists), “I can’t sing.” Well, who told them they couldn’t sing, and why did they believe it? I’ve found through years of singing, performing and teaching, that very few people are actually tone deaf. So, why do so many people believe they can’t sing? It’s because someone told them to be quiet in church when they were singing, and from then on, they adopted a negative belief system about singing. Just because they may not have had a pretty voice, or a professional voice, is not the same thing as they “can’t sing”. I found myself coaching a few of these people for my sight-singing class, and lo and behold, they could it.

Not all of us can afford coaches, or counselors, or professionals to help us. But, one thing we can do is help ourselves by working with affirmations. The one great thing about affirmations, is that there is so much information out on the Internet about affirmations. What I like to do is to search through a lot of written affirmations in healing, prosperity, health, career, relationship issues, and find the ones that I like. Then I re-word the affirmation into something that feels right to me. I always make sure that the affirmation is written in the “present” tense and that it is positive and specific.

Some affirmations have a bit of a “charge” let’s say. What I mean by a “charge” is that you are stating something positive, but you’re feeling some negative emotions as you write. All this means, is that somehow, you’re not quite sure you actually believe this, and there is some healing to do in this area. As you keep writing the affirmation, there can be a whole series of emotions flowing, if you allow yourself to go through the process. The experts say that the subconscious mind doesn’t know what is real, or not real. So, why not give ourselves the best positive belief system, to replace the negative beliefs we’ve adopted through the course of life? Changing our beliefs, is like giving ourselves a new life, a new outlook and a new future that’s based on positive beliefs.

When I was going through a difficult time in my life, I use to write “I now release all fears and resentments”, over and over again. It was difficult, because I was in fear, and I had a lot of resentments. I was tired of being depressed. I was tired of being fearful. What I had to do, was reprogram myself into releasing these negative feelings, so that I could live a joyful life. Even though, I didn’t initially believe that I could actually “let go” of those negative emotions, the more times I wrote the affirmation, the more relaxed I became.

I love affirmations so much, that I buy CD’s and audio downloads of so many wonderful teachers and healers, and I usually play them when I meditate or go to sleep. I find that continued use of affirmations changes my outlook, my productivity, and my joy and happiness. I even subscribe to a number of e-mail subscriptions from Unity’s Daily Word and Joel Osteen. I find that immersing myself in positive affirmations has helped me to grow significantly and has healed many wounds. I am now a much more joyful and positive person than I’ve ever been in my whole life.

My new affirmation of the day is “I choose positive words and experience positive results.” Have a great day!
