Bedtime Sleep Rituals For Babies & Toddlers

Bedtime Sleep Rituals For Babies & Toddlers

Every baby or infant should have a set routine to follow before it’s time to sleep. What exactly this routine will consist of will vary greatly depending on the parents personal choices. The common elements however will revolve around low key activities.

Very young children and babies crave normalcy and consistency. Of course we are not bringing up robots here. Parents that are too religious about schedules and routines may do well to offer a little spontaneity in the picture now and again. However it’s best to err on the side of the routine in the very beginning until you know exactly what your child can handle and assimilate and what they can’t.

The bedtime ritual should be thought of as a winding down period. For babies of around 6-months old this maybe around 6:00 or 7:00pm. Often soon after the parents arrive home from work. While the impulse for loving parents who have not seen their beloved baby all day, would be to extend playtime and quality time into the evening so as to bestow as much love as they can. It is critically essential to get your baby off to an early start on the bedtime ritual.

Early evening activities of the family should be centered around the bedtime ritual of the newest member. Other children will often interfere but that completely natural. it’s important for them to understand early on that the baby’s sleep time is very important and precious. Engaging the older children into the bedtime ritual of babies can be very rewarding for all parties. This can often avoid any jealousy and counteractive feelings older children may have against the younger member of the family.

It’s not easy to combine a bedtime ritual that suits all members of the family. Older children will naturally want to stay up later and sending them to bed early or letting the baby stay up later can be counter productive. It may also cause problems for the baby ritual you are trying hard to instill. Older children can still disrupt the ritual and you may have to make some sacrifices later on in the evening just so the older children behave.

Once the baby is asleep then you can reward them with a little television or maybe to play some type of game or puzzle. All of this helps bonding parents and children together so it no big chore.

At the end of the day you are just trying to set out a regular pattern of sleep for your newborn child while at the same time ensuring that the rest of the family are not completely ignored. That’s why it’s a great idea to involve them and not shut them out which can have a negative effect and fuel longer lasting problems.

You will also need to ensure that anyone baby sitting continues with the same routine. A break in this pattern may bring you back to square one again and all your hard work will be lost. Just be strict with the system and ensure your babysitters and child minders do the exact same thing.

Getting children and babies into a sleep ritual will take time and a lot of patience. No two children are alike and will all have their own traits so there is no set rule to follow. What will work wonders for some parents may have poor results for others. Don’t be afraid to experiment until you get the right bedtime ritual system that not just suits your children, but it also suit the parents also. After all, you both need your sleep too remember.

Affirmations are simply statements that we make to ourselves; it’s our self-talk. You use affirmations all the time, whether you’re doing so intentionally or unintentionally. If you make a mistake and you think to yourself, “I’m always making mistakes, I never do anything right”, you’ve just made a negative affirmation. If instead you make a mistake and you think to yourself, “That’s OK, I have the ability to correct this”, you’ve just made a positive affirmation.

Your self-talk has an enormous impact on your conscious and subconscious minds. By repeating positive affirmations you can reprogram your thought patterns. Creating new thought patterns will allow you to begin to change your underlying beliefs and the way that you think and feel about yourself, others, and your place in the world. In this way, you can improve your life dramatically through the use of daily positive affirmations.

Choosing Your Affirmations

Shakti Gawain, author of Creative Visualization, offers the following advice for choosing your affirmations:

o Always phrase your affirmations in the present tense, as if it already exists. Say “I enjoy being at my ideal weight” instead of saying “I will reach my ideal weight.”

o Affirm what you want, not what you don’t want. Instead of saying “I am no longer a procrastinator”, say “I always get things done on time.”

o Don’t simply go through your affirmations by rote; add positive feelings and emotions to your affirmations.

o Choose affirmations that feel right for you. If you come across an affirmation that you like but you would feel more comfortable changing a couple of words, go right ahead.

Use Three Different Pronouns

A technique that you can apply to make your affirmations more effective is to write down the same affirmation using different pronouns. For example, if you want to affirm that you’re surrounded by positive people who want the best for you, you can write down the following three affirmations (in this example your name is Joan):

o I am surrounded by positive people who want the best for me.

o Joan, you are surrounded by positive people who want the best for you.

o Joan is surrounded by positive people who want the best for her.

When you say affirmations in the second and third person it’s as if someone else is talking to you or about you. Your internal critic is less apt to interject a negative comment if it thinks someone else is making these positive affirmations about you.

Affirmations Can Be General or Specific

Affirmations can be general or they can be very specific. Some examples of general affirmations are the following:

o Abundance is all around me.

o Abundance is my birthright.

o There is more than enough for all.

Use general affirmations to “set the stage”. Once you’ve established clear, well-defined goals for yourself you can create specific affirmations to help keep you focused on your goals and to strengthen your belief in your ability to reach your goals. For example, if your goal is to lose 10 pounds in the next three months by exercising, your affirmations could be the following:

o I now jog for 40 minutes, 4 times a week.

o Jogging helps me to lose weight and makes me healthy and fit.

o I am now lifting weights 3 times a week.

o I enjoy going to the gym and lifting weights.

o I am getting excellent results from jogging and weight lifting, and it shows.

o Every day I am getting fitter and fitter.

o I now weigh X amount of pounds (your target weight).

o People comment on how much thinner I am and how good I look.

You Have to Be Able to Believe Your Affirmations

Whenever you choose to change anything in your life, you’re choosing to move out of your present comfort zone. We should always strive to grow and expand our definition of ourselves and of what we are capable of. However, you have to make sure that your affirmations are not so far off from where you are at the moment that there’s no way you can get yourself to believe what you’re affirming.

If you don’t believe the affirmations you’re saying to yourself, then you need to start with a less ambitious affirmation and gradually make your affirmations bigger and bigger. For example, if you currently make $3,000.00 a month, it may be difficult for you to believe “I am now making $50,000.00 a month”. However, you can probably believe the following affirmation: “I am now making $4,500.00, or more, a month”. As you move forward and begin to see results you can progressively increase this number until you do feel comfortable affirming that you make over half a million dollars a year.

Repeat Your Affirmations Often

There is much power in repetition. Positive affirmations are not something that you do once in a while, instead, you should expose your mind to the affirmations that you choose for yourself as often as possible. In the words of Robert Collier: “Constant repetition carries conviction.”

Write down your affirmations and place them where you can refer to them often (you can even carry them around in your wallet). You can say them out loud to yourself every morning when you wake up and at night before going to bed, or you can set aside a few minutes each day to scribble them on a sheet of paper several times to help reinforce the message in your mind.

Taping the affirmations in your own voice and listening to the tape while you’re relaxing-or, even better, meditating– has had extraordinary effects for countless people. Louise Hay, author of the International bestseller “You Can Heal Your Life”, recommends that you sing or chant your affirmations. Some people leave a CD with positive affirmations playing softly in the background while they sleep at night.

In addition, there are several programs that allow affirmations to flash on and off on your computer screen unobtrusively, helping to program these affirmations into your subconscious.

Affirmation Bath

Practitioners who offer healing workshops often use a technique called “affirmation bath”. Basically, several people stand around one person and they all begin saying positive affirmations directed toward that person. The person is “engulfed” by positive messages from others. You can try this technique if you can find several like-minded people to participate in this exercise with you.

Release Any Negative Feelings That Arise

Negative feelings can act as self-imposed stop signs to getting what you want in life. If you feel any discomfort, self-doubt, fear, anger, and so on when saying your affirmations, you need to let go or release these negative feelings. One way to do this is by using the Sedona Method. As stated before, you have to add positive feelings and emotions to your affirmations, and if negative feelings are getting in the way, you need to be able to let go of them.

Your self-talk can either prevent you from getting what you want in life, or it can be a powerful catalyst for creating the life you’ve always wanted. Create a daily practice of using positive affirmations to help motivate, support, and inspire you to go after your dreams.

Affirmations are probably the easiest and most effective method – compared to the effort involved – known to influence the conscious mind. Many of the world’s most intelligent experts and philosophers have used, and are using this technique, which has been handed down over thousands of years, in various guises such as mantras and prayers. The difference today, because of the now more wide spread knowledge of this technique, is that people from all walks of life are using them to meet people, win tournaments, heal disease and close business deals.

Affirmations are quite simple by their very nature, as all they really are is simple statements repeated regularly to yourself, whether silently or aloud, and practical to you at the time. You can do them anywhere, you decide upon a statement that represents what you want to have happen to you, and then you simply repeat it to yourself over and over again.

As an example, let’s say you find yourself in a familiar situation which normally upsets you and leaves you worn out and stressed, when actually you would prefer to be relaxed and unworried by it, this would be the exact time when using a positive affirmation would be beneficial to you, and in this situation a good example of an affirmation you would repeat to yourself to help change the situation could be ” I feel calm and relaxed, I feel calm and relaxed, I feel calm and relaxed”. Now at this point it is important that you don’t try to force yourself to feel calm and relaxed, just make sure that you keep repeating the affirmation to yourself for approx 5 minutes. Another quick example of a positive use of affirmations would be prior to attending an important business meeting that you would like to go well; this time you would begin affirming to yourself a few minutes beforehand with something like this “It’s going to be a great meeting, It’s going to be a great meeting.”

So Exactly What are You Doing When You do Affirmations?

When you use affirmations you are influencing, directly, the very thoughts that are occurring at any one specific time in your mind. As your mind can only hold one thought at a time, an affirmation works by cramming your mind and filling it with thoughts that support your goal. It’s quite clever really; in a simple way the words are suggesting to your mind what it should be thinking, so if you are affirming ” It’s going to be a great meeting ” then your mind naturally begins thinking related thoughts about it being a great meeting. It really is quite simple really, but the technique can be remarkably effective in helping you achieve the results you are looking for.

How do You Know if You are Doing it Right?

Well it’s all in the words you choose, they must be POSITIVE not negative, and, as gratitude forms part of the whole attraction process, you should include words that also convey this. For example, I use the following terminology to start all of my affirmations, taught by a great mentor of mine, Bob Proctor (from The Secret, Movie) no matter what I am affirming ” I am so Happy and Grateful now”. These words you will notice also use another important aspect of affirmations, they must always be in the present tense, as if you already have whatever it is happen. So if for example you have a money affirmation to bring more financial abundance into your life you could say ” I am so Happy and Grateful Now That Money is Attracted to me and I am attracted to money” or, for more opportunities to appear to you, you could say ” I am so Happy and Grateful Now That New Opportunities are Presented to me From Multiple Sources on a Continuous Basis”

You actually don’t even need to believe what you are affirming! This mistake can have a counter effect and nullify the effects. I know of many people who have used affirmations unsuccessfully mainly because they were trying to force themselves to believe. By the way, don’t get me wrong, if you DO believe what you are affirming, this will only serve to enhance, but if you don’t, then that’s OK too. You don’t have to force anything; by the process of repetition your mind will pick up the content of your affirmations and will therefore allow the correct thoughts into your consciousness.

You must also keep your affirmations reasonably short and to the point, easy to say and easy to repeat over and over again. I try to keep my affirmations to a maximum of 25 words, sometimes a lot less. Even 2 or 3 words can sometimes be an effective affirmation, short statements like ” I have tremendous success always” or ” I achieve record sales ” I have seen affirmations that were a full page long. There’s absolutely no chance that you can repeat an affirmation of that length in an effective manner, and I have found with people who have affirmations which are too long, soon tire of the repetition and the affirmation soon fizzles out. So the lesson here is, make it short and make it easy to say and repeat.

Also be very careful that you do not use your affirmations in a careless way that means they may work against you, for example statements like ” I’ll never get it done” I’ll never do it” I always lose” are all affirmations that you can easily find yourself repeating to yourself without even realizing it, so watch out for these.

So remember that anybody can create affirmations and use them effectively throughout the day to help accomplish the things that they want. They can be said anywhere, in the doctor’s waiting room, in a traffic jam, they don’t need to be believed, all you have to do is repeat them. I repeat my affirmations 5 times per day, however this is my personal preference which works well for me, but if I was to recommend a minimum I would say 3 times per day, first thing when you get out of bed in the morning – this sets the tone for the rest of the day – secondly, at lunch time – this helps to re-motivate you when typically you might be flagging – and thirdly just before you go to sleep – this is when your subconscious mind is in its most receptive state. Two or three minutes is all you need, start doing this now and commit to repeating every day and you will be amazed at how quickly you will begin to produce a noticeable affect.

Powerful Affirmations are a constructive and time-tested way to creating real change that lasts, but unless you have crafted your affirmations correctly to cater for your needs and desires, over time you may not experience the change or results you were looking for. You might have other great methods for making positive change such as goal lists, dream cards, vision boards etc. Though affirmations are by far the ultimate tool to add to your self-growth toolbox. Affirmations take on the role of aligning your desires with your personal beliefs.

When they do become in harmony with one another, manifesting your goals and dreams become virtually effortless. Using affirmations correctly is crucial to making them effective and aligning yourself. If you’re not using them correctly or you feel your affirmations are not working for you could be striking a misalignment. For example. You may have a list of affirmations that you have come up with that you want to start working with in your life. If you find when you are saying your affirmations that you don’t truly believe it, then this can cause misalignment. An easy way to identify a misalignment towards particular affirmations is to take your attention into how you feel when you say them. Is there any feeling of inner conflict or inadequacy? Any uncomfortable feeling in your stomach or chest that disagrees with what you’re saying? If you feel this in any way, this is where you’re causing the misalignment.

You’re saying the Affirmations but your subconscious doesn’t agree or want to believe it yet. Affirmations work tremendously well, as for my own experiences. It’s just a matter of crafting and wording them well. When creating your first set of powerful positive affirmations, there is a simple but one powerful formula you can use. First, identify what’s bothering you and what you want to change. There could be a few you come up with to do with your finances, your health or relationships. The second step is to identify the exact opposite of what you don’t want. For example financial freedom or toned body. Finally, find a word or phrase that sums up its opposite quality. Keep it general and add the words “I am” at the start of the phrase. For a complete example. If you feel you are struggling financially, you may often think ‘poor’ thoughts, sometimes without being aware. Well the opposite of ‘poor’ is clearly ‘wealth’.

So you would make an affirmation where you’re saying “I am wealth”. Once you come up with a few powerful and positive affirmations, it’s important you test them out. When you test your affirmations make sure you feel good and satisfied about yourself. Keep an eye out for any discomfort or inadequacy. It’s sometimes only a matter of changing and searching for the right words till you find something that you are comfortable with. You will know when you’ve found the right word, when you feel comfortable saying your affirmation and it feels true to you. So, referring back to our example. If you say “I am rich” and the word ‘rich’ just doesn’t feel right or bothers in any way, this word is probably not suitable and clashes with you in some way. Try changing it up a little like “I am comfortable and secure in my finances” or “I am financially independent”. Sculpture your affirmations to any area of your life.

Make them powerful and satisfying. If you feel uplifted and smile when you say them, you’ve got it. You can craft affirmations towards anything of material and spiritual, and are very effective. Once you’ve compiled your set of tested affirmations and are happy with them. Get into practice saying them twice a day, but at least once a day. The best time is in the morning just after waking up. This is a great time because your mind is not fully active yet. Between sleep and waking your brain is in Alpha mode, it’s relaxed and you can conduct your affirmations before your thoughts start getting too busy and any kind of negative thought starts. If you are to do it twice a day, which is recommended, especially when you’re first starting out with your affirmations, repeat it like mantra at certain times throughout your day.

Preferably when you’re not to occupied, like when you’re on a break or even whilst driving. Repeating your powerful positive affirmations daily will set your tone, making it set like cement into your mind. The power behind the simple words “I am” can transform your life. You will notice after time that your default way of thinking has altered and any previous conditioning or thoughts about yourself or life has gradually diminished. When you start to notice the difference in your thinking, and notice you are thinking more positively this is a sign that you’re affirmations are working. You’ve aligned your desires with your beliefs. You will start to manifest new and better things out of your new thought patterns. You now have ingrained within your mind, a more dominant positive thinking pattern, with repeated use of powerful positive affirmations.

The affect of powerful positive thinking can have on your life is tremendous! The Law of Attraction responds to every thought we have, be it positive or negative. Positive Daily Affirmations are so vital to the sustainment of a positive mental attitude. Wise men know that their attitude is the compass that guides them because they understand emotional intelligence. Our emotions come from the thoughts that we have stored in our subconscious memory programs.

If this is so then positive daily affirmations would slowly but surely transform the spiritual heart into that which it is affirming on a daily basis. Like I said in words of affirmation, through teachings in school we have been conditioned to create problems for ourselves. This can be reversed if we fill our minds with abundant affirmations, peace affirmations, health affirmations and wealth affirmations.

The mind is like a garden and whatever you plant in it will grow. It is important that you plant seeds in a orderly fashion because you don’t want your plants to grow disorderly. Renew your minds daily with positive daily affirmations until it becomes implicit to think wealthy thoughts. Make it an implicit positive daily affirmation of peace and love. Just harmonize the word love in the back of your mind at feel how your body responds to the word love resonating in your spirit.

This is the power of affirmations on a highly emotional level. Whatever you believe to be is to be with all your heart mind and soul. The problem is people are a sleep at the wheel in their vehicle. We let our minds gain control over our consciousness and we fail to affirm daily positive affirmations. Take the time to look yourself in the mirror and speak into your existence.

Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. Renew your mind daily by positively affirming your presence in consciousness. You can write into your dna whatever internal dialogue you paint on your insides. You actually are daily affirming something rather good or bad rather you know it or not everyday.

If you wake up and affirm your miserable job you are hardwiring your brain to experience more of the same miserable job everyday day in day out. If you have bills due and its the first thing on your mind when you wake and the last when you fall asleep you are affirming debt. If you think people are taking advantage of you everyday you are affirming the victim mentality. Like Henry ford said, “Rather you think you can or you think you can’t, your right.” Whatever you affirm is hardwired in your brain and the pattern can fire automatically. It has become an automatic function to respond however you have trained yourself to respond subconsciously.

Positive daily affirmations should be held in the mind at some degree almost consistently. You have to train your body and your mind by positive daily affirmations to be aligned with right action. If you want increase in your life you cannot affirm thoughts of lack, want and decrease. You have to move forward in your mind. You can only perceive what your brain is organized to tell you. Organize your brain with positive daily affirmations until it becomes a part of you. This is a world of abundance and the universe is expanding. More gold can be minded out of the ground. More creations can be created. More ideas can be born. More life can be expressed when we have affirmed more love.

I’ve been a spiritual seeker for many years now and I’ve always been interested in reading books about spirituality, self-improvement, healing and learning as much as I could for quite some time. I feel like I’ve been blessed by aligning myself with some of the best spiritual teachers through workshops and individual counseling sessions. I’ve had to overcome a lot of obstacles in my life, due to family issues, and I needed a lot of guidance.

One of my mentors was a counselor in Houston, Texas. I spent almost ten years working with this woman who whole-heartedly believed in the power of affirmations. It was sort of like going to confession in the Catholic Church. We would have our session where we would talk about issues, and then I would be assigned my so called homework. Instead of ten “Hail Mary’s” and five “Our Father’s”, it would be to write this affirmation 25 times: “I begin to bless everything that comes into my life as good, good, good.” Then I would write this affirmation in first person with “I”, second person: “You begin”, and third person: “Laureen, begins to.” The reasoning is that yes, I need to affirm myself. When writing in second person, it’s as if someone that I trust is talking right to me. In third person, it’s as if it were written, and already true.

Over the course of 10 years, I have written thousands of affirmations. I’ve written affirmations of healing from past childhood traumas, healing of relationships, healing from a divorce and healing from career changes. I was basically reprogramming my conscious and subconscious negative thoughts into positive “affirming” thoughts. Instead of believing in a “negative belief” that no longer works for me, I worked on accepting and affirming the “positive” experiences from the situation.

In the beginning, I would complain that my hands would get tired from all the writing, but the repetition imprints the affirmation into the subconscious mind. Also, the more times you write an affirmation, the more emotionally involved you get. How can you write “I am healthy in mind, body and spirit” dozens of times, without believing it? Writing, helps you believe it, feel it, and reprogram your mind.

I’ve written affirmations down in journals and post-it-notes around the house. I’ve typed in affirmations on my computer and printed some of them in large type and pasted it to my wall, such as: “The more money I spend, the more money I receive from the Universe”. I tend to like this one a lot! I’ve even taped myself speaking affirmations, so I can listen at home, while I’m doing yoga. I find there isn’t such a thing as too much. We spend so much of our lives in negative surroundings, whether that be at work, or at home, with our family, friends or even watching TV.

When I was in music school, I was a vocal performance major. I use to hear all the time from various students (some instrumentalists), “I can’t sing.” Well, who told them they couldn’t sing, and why did they believe it? I’ve found through years of singing, performing and teaching, that very few people are actually tone deaf. So, why do so many people believe they can’t sing? It’s because someone told them to be quiet in church when they were singing, and from then on, they adopted a negative belief system about singing. Just because they may not have had a pretty voice, or a professional voice, is not the same thing as they “can’t sing”. I found myself coaching a few of these people for my sight-singing class, and lo and behold, they could it.

Not all of us can afford coaches, or counselors, or professionals to help us. But, one thing we can do is help ourselves by working with affirmations. The one great thing about affirmations, is that there is so much information out on the Internet about affirmations. What I like to do is to search through a lot of written affirmations in healing, prosperity, health, career, relationship issues, and find the ones that I like. Then I re-word the affirmation into something that feels right to me. I always make sure that the affirmation is written in the “present” tense and that it is positive and specific.

Some affirmations have a bit of a “charge” let’s say. What I mean by a “charge” is that you are stating something positive, but you’re feeling some negative emotions as you write. All this means, is that somehow, you’re not quite sure you actually believe this, and there is some healing to do in this area. As you keep writing the affirmation, there can be a whole series of emotions flowing, if you allow yourself to go through the process. The experts say that the subconscious mind doesn’t know what is real, or not real. So, why not give ourselves the best positive belief system, to replace the negative beliefs we’ve adopted through the course of life? Changing our beliefs, is like giving ourselves a new life, a new outlook and a new future that’s based on positive beliefs.

When I was going through a difficult time in my life, I use to write “I now release all fears and resentments”, over and over again. It was difficult, because I was in fear, and I had a lot of resentments. I was tired of being depressed. I was tired of being fearful. What I had to do, was reprogram myself into releasing these negative feelings, so that I could live a joyful life. Even though, I didn’t initially believe that I could actually “let go” of those negative emotions, the more times I wrote the affirmation, the more relaxed I became.

I love affirmations so much, that I buy CD’s and audio downloads of so many wonderful teachers and healers, and I usually play them when I meditate or go to sleep. I find that continued use of affirmations changes my outlook, my productivity, and my joy and happiness. I even subscribe to a number of e-mail subscriptions from Unity’s Daily Word and Joel Osteen. I find that immersing myself in positive affirmations has helped me to grow significantly and has healed many wounds. I am now a much more joyful and positive person than I’ve ever been in my whole life.

My new affirmation of the day is “I choose positive words and experience positive results.” Have a great day!

There are very few people who use positive affirmations on a daily basis to reach their goals. Positive affirmations are used by some of the most elite, powerful people in the world to obtain goals in several different areas of their life. There seems to be confusion on why to use affirmations and if affirmations really work. In this article, I’m going to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about affirmations.

Aren’t affirmations just words on paper?

Affirmations are not just words on paper. They are powerful words that can be used to help create a positive belief in your mind that you can have any of the desires and successes in your life that you want. Affirmations spoken daily with action can help you achieve any goal.

How do affirmations really work?

The way affirmations work is by giving your mind, the belief system that you truly can accomplish your goal. Speaking affirmations daily helps to build a positive mindset, which is needed to accomplish any goal. There is a saying, “You have to believe it to achieve.” If your mind is not prepared and you can’t see yourself accomplishing something then you won’t be able to accomplish. But if you can change your mindset to positive affirmations, and you can see it in your mind, you start to believe that you can accomplish the task at hand. Then you will succeed.

How many different affirmations, should I make?

I would make affirmations for as many areas in your life that you want to change. There are several areas you can create affirmations for such as, spiritual, emotional, business, family, and health and fitness to name a few. Once you have determined what areas you want to change simply take out a piece of paper and pen and brainstorm for 10 to 15 minutes. Let your mind when free with all the positive statements that you can think of for that particular topic. Once you have determined the most positive affirmations, write them down until you have a full list for each area you would like to see change.

How many times a day should I say my affirmations?

It is best if you can spend at least 10 concentrated minutes speaking your affirmations in a quiet environment daily. Anytime that you are feeling low or negative would also be another good time to speak your affirmations, even if it’s to yourself in your own mind. Sometimes you will find that after speaking your affirmations you are very positive and feel that you can conquer the world. When starting out, I would speak, positive affirmations at least 10 minutes a day. If you don’t feel that this is enough, keep your affirmations with you and speak them any time that you start to feel negative. This should help to keep you in a positive mindset to accomplish your goals.

What time of the day, should I speak my affirmations?

The best time of day to speak, positive affirmations are upon rising in the morning. If you spend 10 concentrated minutes speaking your affirmations will help to start your day in a positive manner and to conquer the task at hand throughout the day. Another great time to speak your affirmations is just before going to bed. This will help keep your mind in the positive mindset before going to bed and can help you sleep better throughout the night. You can also speak your positive affirmations throughout the day whenever you feel negative, or that you cannot accomplish your task.

Now that we have answered some of the most frequently asked questions about affirmations, it’s time to start building your own affirmations so you can conquer any task at hand. It is a simple, yet powerful technique that has been used by very powerful people to achieve their success. So if you are some one that is feeling negative and that you can’t seem to ever accomplish your goals, give positive affirmations a chance and I know your lives will change for the positive.

The dictionary description is:

af-fir-ma-tion [af-er-mey-shun]

1. The act or an instance of affirming; state of being affirmed.

2. the assertion that something exists or is true.

3. something that is affirmed; a statement or proposition that is declared to be true.

4. confirmation or ratification of the truth or validity of a prior judgment, decision, etc.

Thoughts repeated regularly and systematically sink into the subconscious mind and become habitual. Affirmations as these are called are used by many children and adults to create lasting changes in their lives. Finding the right affirmations to use is much more effective if it is in your own words and way of thinking. It is important that your affirmations are written in your own words since the subconscious will react better to your own thoughts than to the thoughts of someone else. It is easy to understand that you probably would not trust anyone more than you trust yourself. Start by taking notice of what you want to change in yourself. Write down on paper your thoughts, desires, and feelings that you may wish to improve upon.

How to use affirmations

When wording your affirmation, you need to use words and phrases for your affirmations in a positive manner rather than a negative manner. As an example, if you wanted to quit smoking, you would not want an affirmation such as “Cigarette smoking makes me sick” because you will in turn cause yourself to get sick. It is better to phrase affirmations like “I am a non-smoker” or “I am healthy and dislike the smell and taste of cigarette smoke” thereby instructing your subconscious to see a different you. When your subconscious sees yourself different, you will become different. Whatever the subconscious mind believes, the conscious mind becomes.

It is important to choose your words wisely. You do not want to use phrases like “I want” because no change will take place since your subconscious is already there. In other words, affirmations worded with “I want” simply are a statement of what “you want”, this only affirms that you will always want whichever it is your affirmations are presenting. You must see yourself as a different you by visualizing what it is you would like to accomplish. Use words like “I am” or “I have”, this allows your subconscious to visualize and believe you are already what you wish to become instead of what you want to become.

Positive affirmations can enhance any area of your life, from improving health, skills, success, relationships and more to conquering bad habits like unhealthy eating habits, aggressive tempers and attitudes, biting nails, bed wetting, drug addictions, or lack of attention and motivation. There are many resources available to help those who find creating affirmations to be difficult. Affirmations can be found on the Internet or in books. Remember to try and use any outside suggestions only as an example and maybe rephrase it in your own words. Thoughts and phrases should come from words within your terms of speaking. If you wish to improve your health, you can find hundreds of examples on the Internet that reflect healthy aspects. Though if for instance you were to find some health affirmations worded in a manner that you would not typically speak, you need to re-write that affirmation into your own words so that you comprehend what your affirmation means. Your subconscious will work faster with affirmations spoken in your terms of speaking faster than that of someone else’s if you do not fully understand it. An example of this could be the legal terminology that most attorneys use, most of us can read it and somewhat understand it, but the lawyers are the ones that can pick it apart and know exactly what it is exclaiming to in ways we probably never imagined. If your mind does not fully comprehend the meaning of the affirmations you are feeding it, your process will not take effect as fast.

How long before you see results

It can take approximately 20 days to create a lasting change but can start taking affect on your behavior a lot sooner where you can notice yourself actually beginning to change in the way you have expressed through your affirmations. It does matter how you use the affirmations too, if you only use your affirmations during the day instead at night like suggested, it may take longer to take affect. Using a recorder or an affirmation unit such as the Mindmaster at night can allow you to create the change subconsciously without the common distractions one normally endures during the day with normal everyday life. Whether it is distractions with traffic, kids, work, cellphones, animals, you name it, they take away from the effectiveness of repeating your affirmations. You could also possibly take time out of your day to go somewhere that is maybe free of these distractions, but that is sometimes a luxury that many of us don’t have. It also takes away from getting other things done too. However, when you are sleeping you have no distractions and the subconscious mind receives everything you tell it. Since your subconscious never sleeps, it is even more receptive to receiving and retaining messages because any doubt and disbelief, which are conscious barriers, are dissolved while you are sleeping, allowing your subconscious image to be changed more effectively.

Affirmations and children

Affirmations though not as widely used as they are for adults can be used with children to help them overcome obstacles that they face with growing up. Fears of the dark, fears of the potty, eating habits, aggressive behaviors, controlling emotions, improving skills and confidence. There are many uses just like with adults that can help your child as well. They should be able to utilize all available tolls that they can when growing up, this shapes them into who they will become later in life. Using affirmations with a child can be a bit different from the way we may use them as adults. Adults have the ability to remember they need to repeat their affirmations where kids usually lack the ability to remember the simplest things they were just told to do. This is where targeting the subconscious mind works best. Much like how adults use recorders, there is a product on the market that is designed for children to repeat their affirmation back to them at night while they sleep on a timed program so it is not in a continuous loop. It has been proven to work successfully with speaking toddlers guided by their parents directive. If you are having problems with potty training for instance, children have stopped wetting the bed in as little as a week, for good and all on their own. This not only helps give the child a sense of accomplishment but also self confidence and belief that they can achieve their goals.

Some Simple Affirmation Examples Are:

* I am a great salesperson who is confident in my abilities to succeed.

* I am productive and a success in all that I do.

* I am efficient and stress-free.

* I am a non-smoker and in control of my health and wellness.

May, A Better Sleep Month For Adults, Babies & Toddlers – How Get Your Baby Or Toddler to Sleep Tips

May, A Better Sleep Month For Adults, Babies & Toddlers – How Get Your Baby Or Toddler to Sleep Tips

Sleep. It’s the ultimate refresher and is essential to our survival, but are you and your family getting enough? Although we spend 33% of our lives asleep, we barely take notice… until we can’t sleep. Then we think about it nonstop and would pay anything for a night of uninterrupted snoozing. May is Better Sleep Month and what better time to assess your families sleep habits and make changes?

Good sleep patterns are established from a very young age, so if you have young children in the house it’s time to take a look at their nightly routines and institute change.

Problem: Your child is always too cold or too hot.

Solution: Temperature is a major issue when it comes to sleep. The ideal bedroom temperature for sleep is 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit, but seasonal conditions often come into play and can make a room too hold or cold. A few simple adjustments can make it possible for your child to sleep comfortably:

· Make sure all bedding in your child’s crib is made of natural fabrics.

· Dress your child in a sleep sack made of merino, which has the natural ability to cool or insulate your child depending on the temperature. Unfortunately synthetic fabrics such as polyester can cause your child to overheat, and cotton offers little warmth, so merino is your best choice.

Problem: Your child’s sleep schedule is inconsistent

Solution: Creating a consistent nighttime routine is essential for children, who on average need at least 9 hours of sleep per night. By establishing and sticking with a nightly pattern, you’re giving your child the best chance to get to sleep sooner and sleep longer throughout the night. A typical nighttime routine for an under two is:

1. Dinnertime at a reasonable hour, preferably before 7pm

2. Bath or shower time. The warm water relaxes young children and signifies the end of the day. A couple of drops of lavender scented bath oil can be soothing and relaxing.

3. A short massage for babies under the age of one can be very relaxing. Again, lavender scented lotions or oils can assist.

4. Dress your child in his/her nighttime clothing. Sleep sacks are worn over your child’s sleepwear and fabrics such merino or cotton are best for young children.

5. Story time with a bottle of warm milk (if necessary)

Problem: I’m a new parent and I need some sleep!

Solution: There’s nothing more challenging than taking care of a new baby. The good news is, as babies grow older, they sleep for far longer periods at a time and soon will sleep through the night. In the meantime, know that erratic sleep schedules and getting up in the middle of the night will be part of your lives for the next few months. In saying that, establishing nightly routines and creating sleep associations such as dressing your child in a sleep sack can promote longer periods of uninterrupted sleep.

Problem: I’m not sure how long my child should be sleeping for.

Solution: Children need at least nine hours of sleep each night, and toddlers can be expected to take regular naps on top of this during the day. To help your kids get the sleep they need, make sure your child’s bedroom is conducive to a good night’s sleep – it should be cool, quiet and dark and he or she should be sleeping on a comfortable, supportive mattress, and preferably in a baby or toddler sized sleep sack.

Merino is a top choice for sleep fabrics since it can absorb up to 35% of it’s own weight, compared to polyester which can be as low as 1%. Children that sleep in merino are less likely to overheat, meaning safer and better sleep for little ones.

Better Sleep Month isn’t just for adults! There are several things you can do to promote healthy and safe sleep patterns for your children. Your child will never be too hot or cold when they wear a Merino Kids Baby or Toddler Sleep Bag, meaning better and longer sleep for both you and your little one.
